Essie PLay Date and some random layering

Hi guys! Happy Mother's Day to all my lovely lacquered mamas!

Today I have Essie's Play Date from the Go Overboard Collection to share with you.

I have been dying to wear this color since I picked it up, but since I was doing a full month of blues, it just sat in my untrieds for awhile, staring at me and whispering at me to wear it. I finally gave in this week, and boy am I glad I did!

Play Date is a lovely dusty purple crelly. It reminds me of the lilacs that used to grow in our back yard in upstate New York when I was around 7 or 8. I am loving spring colors right now, and this lovely purple was spot on for what I was looking for! But don't take my word for it, take a look!

Play Date is brighter IRL, but my cameras (all 3 of them) just didn't want to focus in direct lighting. Either way this purple is absolutely gorgeous, and one of my faves.

Formula on this girl was a dream, gliding onto the nail like butter, not too thick, not too thin. It did take 3 coats for opacity, but if you don't mind some very minor VNL you could get away with 2.  Dry time was average, but I also used a non quick dry topcoat at first, and that was slightly detrimental to my mani. I have no patience and am spoiled by SV, so I managed to give my nails a few dents and smudges here and there. Oops!

In order to remedy my boo boos, I decided to play with a little layering. Awhile back I picked up an awesome layering polish by NOPI, and I decided to see what it would look like over Play Date. The result is a lovely pink/purple duochromy look that just wowed me in sunlight. Unfortunately i had managed to kill my camera battery and didn't get any pics of the layering on it's own. I did manage to snap a couple pics of the final mani, which is LA Splash Nail Art Glitter in "Trickery" (sent to me by the lovely Marisa of Polish Obsession), over NOPI Count on Me ( a flipping stunning pink/purple duochrome sheer), over Essie Play Date. I love this look, however this was 3 coats of Play Date, 2 coats of Count on Me, loose glitter sponged on with clear polish, a coat of Gelous and a coat of SV so my poor nails look ultra thick. The upside to that is that this mani lasted 4 days with ZERO chips or tip wear!

I can't wait to play with Count on Me again. It is an amazing layering polish and I highly recommend picking it up. Cris from Let Them Have Polish did some layering with Count on Me recently, and her pics show just how awesome it is over a darker color. It's like Beetle Wings! So many possibilities with this girl. For me, it's up there with Pure Ice Heartbreaker as far as must have layering polish.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend and having an excellent Mother's Day! I'll be hanging out with my hubby and kiddos today, as well as painting my nails here in a few minutes. We are also celebrating Dex's 2nd bday today (it's actually tomorrow, but it's hard to gather everyone on a weeknight), so lots of fun will be had! I plan on posting some pics of the festivities, since I realized I have yet to share my family with you guys!

Coming up:

New Maybelline Color Shot swatches and review, Seche Recondition review, NYC In A New York Minute Quick Dry Top Coat Review, and some holographic goodness!

Also, you may have noticed that my blog is now part of the BlogHer Network. I did not make that decision lightly, and chose to go with BlogHer due to their excellent reputation and content. When they first approached me I spent hours on their site checking things out and doing research. I'm proud to be a part of their network. Feel free to check them out!

Happy Polishing!
