Hi Guys! Hope you all enjoyed my hubby's post! I can't tell you how cute he was playing with that polish. He usually will sit with me for a bit while I work on my manis, and that night he was so excited about the magnet...he was like a little kid! Good times.
I actually wore this polish about a week ago, but hadn't managed to upload the pics to the Macbook until today. This mani certainly got ALOT of attention! I went to the mall the morning after I did this mani, and so many people just grabbed at my hands to check out the polish that I was seriously shocked. While I was in Icing picking up some of their magnetic polish, the Assistant Manager was showing customers my polish in order to sell polish! How funny! I did let people know that it was China Glaze and not Icing that I was wearing - I didn't want anyone to think they were the same and end up disappointed in the color or shape of the design. Apparently my husband was also pulling people off to the side to tell them the same thing, and letting them know that they could pick up the CG Magnetix and Magnet at Ulta. I know they sold at least 4 people a couple each (they were BOGO 1/2 off) just while we were at the checkout counter.
Despite owning a few of the Layla Magnetics, this is the first actual mani I have done with Magnetic Polish. I picked up 2 of the CG Magnetix at Sally's, since that was all they had in stock, and I just fell in love with this green and had to wear it ASAP. I used Rimmel Rags to Riches, a gorgeous metallic Olive Green as a base, and 1 coat of Cling on for this mani. I chose the Chevron design, since that was the hardest to get to show when I swatched this on my nail wheel, and I really wanted to get it to show up! I do love a challenge.
Love, love love!! Despite the imperfections, I absolutely loved this mani. I wore this for 3 days, and really did not want to take it off. It was very tempting to do another magnetic mani right away, but I'm really trying to play with some of my poor untrieds that are just sitting on my shelves looking lonely and lost.
Formula on this girl was wonderful. Smooth as silk. At first I was concerned with how brush-strokey it looked, but the magnet takes care of that. The Magnet is a bit of a PITA, and since it isn't all that strong and is completely flat, I had some issues with the design. My nails are very curvy, and a few of my nails only took the design in the center of the nail. Nobody else seemed to notice this, but since I knew it was there it bothered me like crazy. It doesn't look all that bad in person, but I do wish that the magnet was a bit stronger (or curved slightly) and would pull across the entire nail. The design did pop up very quickly, within a few seconds I could see little chevrons start to show. It only takes about 10-15 seconds to get a very strong image. I also like that this magnet (unlike my Layla's) has the cuticle rests beneath the magnet, since that decreases the likelihood of touching the nail with the magnet. I'm also a pretty big fan of having more than one design to choose from. The Icing Magnets have dual cuticle rests so that the design can be turned and changes a bit, but I love that I have 3 entirely different designs to choose from with the CG magnet. The chevron image is by far the hardest to make work, but once I figured out how to tweak the magnet just right, it popped up right away. The horseshoe shape can be a bit cumbersome, and feels awkward in my hand, but again it just takes some getting used to. It does annoy me that the magnet is sold separately from the polish, since the polish is just plain old polish without it. Why make a magnetic polish and not include a magnet?
I really thought that magnetic polish would be much messier and time consuming than it was. This is a fast and fun way to create some really awesome nail art with barely any effort. Since I wore this girl I've picked up 3 more magnetic polishes, and am waiting on my local Sally's and Ulta to get more of the CG colors in stock. I can't get enough of this stuff!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
Happy Polishing!
