31 Day Challenge (v.2!) Day 24: Inspired By A Book

Morning all! I am still sick as a dog today. In fact, this cold progresses at a miserably slow rate. My son is just now feeling better at 7 days. Looks like today will be my worst and hopefully that means I will be improving soon!

Today's Challenge prompt is Inspired By A Book. I chose my son's favorite bedtime book, and one of my all time fave children's books, "Goodnight Moon". It's such a sweet, simple book and it always makes Dex smile and laugh.

This mani is a bit messy, and I apologize for the mess and the less than stellar pictures. But, being as sick as I am, I'm glad I managed anything at all. Of course, since I *am* so sick, everything was a great effort and I couldn't be bothered by some details. Like gloppy acrylic paint. Not enough energy to mess with it. Runny paint? Same thing. Clean up brush finally biting the big one? Yup, you guessed it. Couldn't be bothered to care. Although I am replacing it today since nothing irritates me more than a fuzzy, fluffy clean up brush. My skin is also extra dry from cleaning yesterday and being sick. This is just a bad combo. Oh well. Things could be so much worse.

So, without further adieu, I give you my messy, acrylic paint stained fingers and nails ala Goodnight Moon!

See? Kinda messy and way less than stellar clean up. Also the curve in my index finger has popped out and its now much longer on one side. Sorry bout that! I promise I'll fix it's weirdness!

So here is the breakdown:

"In The Great Green Room there was a...."

Base color: L'oreal Hyde Park, a gorgeous Grassy Green Crelly. Needs 2- 3 coats for Opacity depending on how thick you like your coats to be. At 2 thin coats I had slight VNL due to the Crelly formula.

Pointer: "And two little kittens"

Middle:  "Goodnight Moon" - The Window in the bunny's bedroom where the moon and stars shine through.

Ring: "And a Red Balloon"

Pinky: "And a pair of mittens"

Obviously these are not in order, but I like how they're kind of randomized. And they make my son giggle and say "Night Night, Mama! Night Night!, which is cute as all get out!

Are you familiar with Goodnight Moon? Do you have a children's book that you love to this day?

Be sure to check out the Varnished Vixens and their Literary Manis! I'll be back later with a neater mani and less angry dry skin! :)

Also, I'm hoping all of you in the line of fire from the Hurricane are safe and sound. Please let us know you're all ok!

31 Day Challenge (v.2!) Day 22: Inspired By A Song

Morning Ladies! Welcome to Day 22 of the 31 Day Challenge! Have we really been at it this long??

Today's Challenge is: dun dun dun! Inspired By A Song! I had some grand plans for this one, but.....I got sick. I still feel rather icky but I managed to do a less insane version of the mani I had planned.

I'm putting this one under a cut since it could be deemed offensive.

So awhile back someone on Twitter mentioned my fave SNL/Lonely Island bit ever. My twisted little brain just knew I would have to use it as my song inspiration, even though it's raunchy and I'm sure at least a few people will be offended. But I have a twisted sense of humor and this always cracks me up. In fact, the first time I saw this sketch, I about wet my pants.

For this mani I used my fave neutral base, OPI Skull and Glossbones. Then I painted the "scenes" using acrylic paint and a detail brush.

So, at risk of being offensive, I give you.....
Di*k In A Box (As portrayed by Stick Figure Dude)!

So lemme break it down for ya: My index nail is Stick Dude just feeling all cocky and sure of himself (the bubble in my top coat was NOT stretegically placed...just a hilarious coincidence). My middle nail is Stick Dude proudly holding up his box, very sure that his gift idea will be well received. My ring finger is stick dude wearing the box, also proudly, and my pinky just says "Di*k In A Box", in case it wasn't obvious what stick dude was doing.

Not an epic mani, but still fun and it made my husband crack up. I wish I wasn't sick so I would've been able to do it up right, but this was honestly all I could handle. In fact, I'm off to be miserable some more. I do have a couple posts for later, but right now Ibuprofen and sleep are calling me.

Be sure to check out the Varnished Vixens and their (probably less offensive) Song Manis!
