ABC Challenge: "W" is for Weak Water Marble

Nothing to Disclose

Hello Lovelies! Check it out - I managed to post again before midnight! Woohoo!

Today is another ABC Challenge day! This challenge has flown by. I can't believe we're already at "W"!

For today's challenge I decided to water marble, which was a bad idea since I am so out of practice. The last time I marbled was for the 31 day challenge, which was at least 6 months ago. I need to bone up on my marbling skills since I love water marbles and can pull off some pretty cool manis when I'm doing them regularly.

I suppose It's not all that bad, especially since this is another 4 am manicure. My biggest issue was that the polishes I chose were not great for marbling, but I am stubborn and decided to force them to work. Yeah, not my best idea. But at 4 am, the last thing I wanted to do was go through my stash to find the good marbling polishes in the right colors.

For this mani, I chose Sally Hansen White On as my base ( my fave white to marble with) and used Orly Wild Wisteria and Nina Ultra Pro Lilac-ing Discipline for my purples. I added the white dots to try to offset how bad this is, but it didn't help. Neither did my attempt at small flower petals since my nails are fairly short. My pinky also came out very light, which was odd since I used the same exact number of drops and the same pattern. Meh.

Here is my weak water marble:

So not epic, but not a complete fail. I hope. I'll definitely be marbling more often to get back into the swing of things though!

Don't forget to check out my polish sistahs and their W manicures. I guarantee they're way less weak than mine is!

Are you a fan of water marbles? Would you like to see more marbling manis?

I'll be back tomorrow with a new Indie Brand that you'll love, so check back!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

31 Day Challenge (v.2!) Day 22: Inspired By A Song

Morning Ladies! Welcome to Day 22 of the 31 Day Challenge! Have we really been at it this long??

Today's Challenge is: dun dun dun! Inspired By A Song! I had some grand plans for this one, but.....I got sick. I still feel rather icky but I managed to do a less insane version of the mani I had planned.

I'm putting this one under a cut since it could be deemed offensive.

So awhile back someone on Twitter mentioned my fave SNL/Lonely Island bit ever. My twisted little brain just knew I would have to use it as my song inspiration, even though it's raunchy and I'm sure at least a few people will be offended. But I have a twisted sense of humor and this always cracks me up. In fact, the first time I saw this sketch, I about wet my pants.

For this mani I used my fave neutral base, OPI Skull and Glossbones. Then I painted the "scenes" using acrylic paint and a detail brush.

So, at risk of being offensive, I give you.....
Di*k In A Box (As portrayed by Stick Figure Dude)!

So lemme break it down for ya: My index nail is Stick Dude just feeling all cocky and sure of himself (the bubble in my top coat was NOT stretegically placed...just a hilarious coincidence). My middle nail is Stick Dude proudly holding up his box, very sure that his gift idea will be well received. My ring finger is stick dude wearing the box, also proudly, and my pinky just says "Di*k In A Box", in case it wasn't obvious what stick dude was doing.

Not an epic mani, but still fun and it made my husband crack up. I wish I wasn't sick so I would've been able to do it up right, but this was honestly all I could handle. In fact, I'm off to be miserable some more. I do have a couple posts for later, but right now Ibuprofen and sleep are calling me.

Be sure to check out the Varnished Vixens and their (probably less offensive) Song Manis!

31 Day Challenge, Day 27: Inspired by Artwork! **Pic Heavy**

I can't believe I've made it to Day 27. There have been times when this has seemed like the impossible challenge for me. Some days work was in the way, others my kiddos needed extra love and attention and being able to work on these challenges and post was the last thing on my mind. But ya know, the one thing that never fails to relax me is to work on a mani, and even after a very long day, sitting down to work on this challenge really has been fun.

I am very proud of today's mani (hence the numerous pics), and I apologize now for all the links to this post that you guys will probably see over the next day or so. I've never attempted a mani like this before, and I am so amazed and proud that I managed to pull it off. I'm not one to float my own boat, but I think this mani is one of my best, and reflects just how much I have learned in the 4 months I have been doing this.  The cats on my ring and thumbnails are free-handed entirely. The paw prints were done with a dotting tool.  My sister saw these and asked if the cats were stickers! I *think* that's a compliment! :)

For Today's challenge I chose Théophile Alexandre Steinlen's  "Tournee Du Chat Noir". I have this piece hanging in my living room, and it has always been one of my very favorite pieces. Tournee Du Chat Noir was actually a 19th Century Cabaret created by Rodolphe Salis out of the Montmartre district of Paris.  If you're interested, you can read about it here.  This is the  piece itself (image from Art.Com):

I took these pics in the lightbox; some with flash, some in just natural light since I was trying to capture the details of the mani as opposed to striving for color accuracy. The base color is L'Oreal's Amazon's Flash, which I just love and really wish that I had taken some pics before starting my nail art! I'm not normally one to wear a bright and flashy gold, but I couldn't pass up the foil-like finish on this one.  I'm a sucker for anything even remotely resembling a foil finish. It did have a ton of cuticle and tip drag,  which is a deal breaker for me. I can't say I'll wear this again unless it's a base for some stamping or nail art.

Here, Kitty, Kitty!

31 Day Challenge, Day 22: Inspired by a song!

I admit it. I am strange. I didn't want to use a song that was popular or mainstream, and this one just screamed to be done. I sing this song with altered lyrics to both of my kids, and it's just popped up in so many areas of my life (in albeit silly ways) that it was an obvious choice.

I give you........dun dun dun!...Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of The Bumblebee"!

I used Sally Hansen's Smooth and Perfect Color Care polish in Air as my base, and freehanded the Bee's and the flight path. The flowers on my right thumb are little Fimo flowers I picked up from Sally's months ago but never seem to use. The premise of my mani is that Nikolai the Bumblebee is going on a journey across my nails to find the flower patch. My kids found this incredibly amusing!

If Hub's was here I would move my nails into "story position" to show you Nikolai's progression. Hehehe. Yeah, I am a dork. ;) Feel free to point and laugh.

Thankfully tonight's challenge is something I have been looking forward to and actually am inspired for!

Happy Polishing!
