A-England Heavenly Quotes: She Walks In Beauty

Hello Lovelies! So sorry for the late post today! Busy day and things got out from under me!

Today's polish is the second of A-England's new Heavenly Quotes, She Walks In Beauty. Inspired by a poem by Lord Byron, She Walks In Beauty is a liquid tribute to his words and captures it's essence perfectly.  (You knew I wouldn't let you off without a poetic moment, right?)

She Walks In Beauty

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

A-England's She Walks In Beauty is a poetic mix of soft Rose glitters, both small round and medium Hexagonal, set in a soft, shimmer golden base. I swear the Rose glitter shifts in color from Rose to Gold, but that may just be an optical illusion due to the golden shimmer base. Either way, She Walks In Beauty is a true masterpiece. Although entirely opaque in 2 coats on her own (I've read that it takes 3, however when I wore this alone I used 2 coats and it looked perfect!), I chose to layer over A-England Iseult (Popular combo!).

If this isn't the perfect Pink/Gold glitter, I don't know what is. Layered over Iseult, this is soft, feminine, and subtly sexy. Alone this polish is a soft glitterbomb that commands attention. I cannot tell you how many people stopped me to ask what polish I was wearing today (I talk with my hands, so you can't really miss them!)! I don't know how Adina does it, but she has given us another absolutely perfect gem.

Formula:
I was thrilled to find that She Walks In Beauty wasn't as thick as alot of glitter bombs. The consistency was thick, yet not too thick to flow nicely. As usual with A-England, no thickening during use, no glopping or clumping.

Application:
True to A-England's high standards, She Walks In Beauty applied smoothly and effortlessly. No fishing for glitter, no hand placing. The glitter lay flat on the nail and did not drag or clump. Perfection.

I know some of you aren't all that excited about this one, but I am absolutely head over heels in love. I'm still quite baffled as to why some people aren't achieveing opacity with SWIB and And The Moonbeams.. I had zero issues with either. Obviously they are both versatile layering polishes as well, and I have a few manis in mind.

A-England Heavenly Quotes: And The Moonbeams..

Good morning lovelies! Happy Sunday! Since it's the day after Caturday, Charlie is insistent that she get her "press" as well, so stay tuned for some gratuitous kitteh pics.

Today I have one of the newest A-England's to share with you all. And, as always with A-England polishes, this comes with a little lesson. ;)

"And the moonbeams" is a quote from a poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley. I love classic poetry, but I had only read this one once previously. I'm glad to be re-acquanted with it. I've included the poem below.

Love’s Philosophy

Beautiful, right? And if you've seen A-England's "And The Moonbeams..", you're well aware of its beauty as well. 

 And The Moonbeams.. consists of a sheer, golden shimmer base laced with irregular golden fleck as well as gold microglitter. I do need to mention that I had a very hard time capturing all the nuance's of this polish. In standard lighting, it looks more like a golden foil, yet in lower light, the glitters come out to play. My issue was mostly with lighting this beauty, since my top coat made lighting at any angle just bounce all over the place! 

I would also like to apologize on behalf of my cuticles. They're sorry that they are so dry and unruly. They would like to let you know that they are naughty and despite every effort on my part, cannot be tamed. I refuse to go after them with nippers or other sharp objects, so I suppose they have won this round. Save for the one that I stabbed with a toothpick the other day (long story). That one is cowering in fear!

Also, photographing my right hand is evil, and I cannot wait for my left hand to get back to a respectable length!

All photos are 3 coats of And The Moonbeams over The Knight, no undies (sometimes we go Commando here at KLK!), and topped with The Shield (hence my really needing new lighting. This stuff is literally like glass!!!!):

Do you see how different this girl looks in different lighting? When I first saw this polish, I really thought it would be a fairly standard shimmery gold glitter, but it is so much more. It really is a complex, shape-shifting little minx! I am admittedly not a huge fan of gold, yet Adina's golden creations have won me over.

I have a layering combo planned for this polish as well, so keep an eye out for that. Hopefully I'll be more adept at photographing my right hand by then! ;)

As with every A-England polish, And The Moonbeams was sheer perfection as far as formula and application. Smooth, buttery, and zero dragging or clumping of the glitter.  Dry time was fast for 3 coats of glittery polish and removal was quick and painless (I did not use a peel off base coat with this polish. I removed this using good old acetone and had no need for the foil method, scrubbing, etc).

A-England Holy Grail (revamped) and some stamping!

Morning lovelies! Happy Monday (ducks thousands of objects being thrown at her for saying that)! Actually I'm not even close to happy, having broken a corner off a nail on Saturday and losing more length that I really was prepared for. Hopefully they grow fast, and I can re-shape them the way I like. I wasn't about to go back to nubbins, so you guys are going to have to live with the less than perfect shaping. :(

Also, this post is kinda long and pic heavy - here's to you, Anonymous, who said that I didn't have enough pics compared to my text (what??????)!

It's going to be a busy day here at KLK....the Giveaway is going live today! First, some warning: The polishes are still in transport stage since I decided to start early. I will post the pictures of the actual prizes as soon as they are all in my hands. Until then, I'm going to be linking to swatches of them so you can still see what is what.

What? You came here to see some polish as opposed to just reading my babbling? Well, let's get on with it then!

Today I have another beauty from A-England to share with you. I'm sure you are all aware that Adina recently revamped Holy Grail from the Mythicals Collection. You may also be aware that Although I love Gold on other people, I rarely wear it since it does really weird things to my skin tone. However, I couldn't resist the sheer beauty of the new Holy Grail.

This version of HG is more of an Antique Gold Foil, boasting flecks of copper, bronze and a golden green. This combination is sheer perfection, and makes this polish a bit of a chameleon. In some lighting conditions it is a glowy, bright gold, in others a shimmery golden bronze with olive highlights. It really is stunning (and occasionally blinding since it's a foil and light just bounces right off it!) and I'll be the first to admit my pictures do it no justice. I'm not going to be as wordy as I usually am with A-Englands today, since I have so much to get done. :)

This is 2 coats of Holy Grail over The Knight, and topped with The Shield. 

I do love this revamped version of Holy Grail. I still need to order the original HG, so I can't do a comparison, but the Original is more of a Yellow Gold shimmer from what I can see in swatches. Also gorgeous, yet somehow plain next to this new version.

It's also just brilliant how Adina brought new life to Holy Grail by revamping it. It's also awesome for nail art, you can see how I combined Holy Grail and Beauty Never Fails below:

As always, Holy Grail's formula is true to A-England's high standards, and application was sheer perfection. 2 easy peasy coats for opacity, no streaking or glopping, and superior shine, even without top coat!

And now, bonus stamping! The moment I saw HG I knew I wanted to stamp using that baby. So after a day of wear (and some impromptu shaping - sorry for the naked tips) I grabbed my Red Angel Plates and Konad Black and came up with this:

 I love how this stamping came out. The pattern is so complex, if you look at the gold it's one pattern, focus on the black and it's another. I was testing out a new item for review with this as well, and didn't get perfect transfers on all nails, but it's good enough IRL that I wasn't too concerned.

A-England Gothic Beauties: Lady of Shalott + The Knight & The Shield Review

Hello lovelies! Happy Thursday! Just a stones throw away from the weekend!

Today I have another of A-England's Gothic Beauties to share with you. Lady of Shalott is named after a poem by Lord Alfred Tennyson. If you are unfamiliar with the poem, I do suggest checking it out. It is the beautiful, yet tragic tale of Elaine of Astolat, who is afflicted with a mysterious curse which forces her to view Camelot through a mirror (and continually weave images upon a loom), as opposed to looking directly upon it. One day she sees Lancelot pass, and stops weaving, only too look directly out the window, bringing about the curse. She leaves the tower, and floats down the river in a boat that she has inscribed with her name, but dies before he reaches the palace. In an ironic twist, Lancelot sees her as she passes, and thinks her beautiful.

A-England's Lady of Shalott is a breathtaking deepest Sapphire Blue, with interwoven specks of fuchsia and teal. The flecks are very evident in the bottle, yet harder to see on the nail. I actually prefer it this way, since the flecks make this polish literally glow from within when the light hits it just right. To me, this polish embodies the darkness that shadows The Lady of Shalott, as well as the mirror itself (There is a line in the poem that says " And sometimes thro' the mirror blue") and the water in the river on which she floats.

See? This is what happens when a polish addict that was a hairs width from majoring in English (always my best and favorite subject, even through college) polish with literary themes! At any rate, Lady of Shalott is the kind of blue that leaves my little heart pitter-pattering.

All photos are 2 coats of Lady of Shalott over The Knight base coat and The Shield Top Coat (I'll be sharing a bit about these in this post as well). Please forgive my pesky bakdrop - the sun was at the perfect angle to reveal part of my lovely blue backdrop!

Oh but The Lady is beautiful!! I love blue polish, and this is among my very favorites. Dark enough to satisfy my love for dark colors, yet bright enough to still appear Blue.

Formula:
Perection.  Lady of Shalott bears the signature A-England formula, thicker consistency, yet not so thick as to be problematic. No dragging, balding, thickening during use, or glopping.

Application:
Smooth as silk, Lady of Shalott applies like a polish lover's dream. It is a touch streaky on the first coat, but evens out beautifully with the second. It does dry a touch matte, so top coat is a must!

The Knight:
A-England's The Knight Base Coat is, and I'm not exaggerating, as close to perfection as I have come. The Knight applies smoothly and evenly, using very little product. Dry time is quick, and The Knight provides a perfect base for polish adherence. I have less issues with chipping and tip wear with The Knight than with any other base coat in my vast arsenal.

The Shield:
If you love Seche Vite, but hate the shrinkage, then The Shield could very well be your Holy Grail Top Coat. The Shield boasts superior shine to any top coat I have used, literally leaving a shine that resembles liquid glass. Dry time is a touch slower than SV, but I would much rather have a slightly longer dry time than skrinkage and the hassle of adding an expensive restoring agent to my top coat every few uses. This is also my go to top coat for restoring shine to an older mani.

A-England Beauty Never Fails - with special guest Holy Grail (revamped)

Good morning loves! Happy Friday! It's payday Friday here, which means the start of XMas shopping and of course, new polish! I have already ordered the 2 new polishes from A-England's Heavenly Quotes Collection and cannot wait to share them with you all! I'll also have part of a new collection from the always awesome Polish TBH, as well as new Twenty Seven Polish!

Today's manicure has been stuck in my head since the very first time I laid eyes on Beauty Never Fails and the newly reformulated Holy Grail. I love nail art, but lately I have been leaning toward more subtle and elegant looking nail art versus my usual over the top manis. This manicure, to me anyway, is elegant and chic, while being utterly sexy at the same time. Before I show you the nails, let's delve into the base color...

One of my favorite aspects of A-England (besides the perfect formula and unique and breathtaking colors) is that every single polish is named for something special. The Legends and The Mythicals are inspired by Sir Arthur and Camelot, each polish truly embodying the essence of its namesake. Adina's latest collection, Heavenly Quotes, are all based on beautiful and uplifting quotes from artists, writers, and poets. Not only do we benefit from Adina's stunning polish, but we get some education at the same time! I am a huge fan of English Legends due to my family on my Mother's side Hailing from Ipswich, Suffolk. I've loved England since I lived there as a child, and every time I have visited I have fallen in love all over again. I am especially fond of England's rich History - the Monarchy, old, crumbling castles and their History, Historical sites. I am especially fond of Elizabeth I and of course, Camelot. I'm also a huge fan of classic literature and poetry, so Adina's collections appeal to so much more than just the nail polish fanatic in me (I wonder if there could ever be a polish inspired by my favorite poem - "Never Give All The Heart" by W.B. Yeats).

But I digress! Beauty Never Fails was inspired by the above quote, written in a letter to  a friend of Edward Burne-Jones. I love this quote - it's simple, yet complex, uplifting and thought provoking. Little Known Fact: Adina has this quote permanently etched on her body (very cool! The more I learn about Adina, the more I admire and am inspired by her.).

Beauty Never Fails, the polish, is an utterly amazing combination of emerald green, olive green, antique gold and subtle bronze fleck in a blackened olive toned green base. In the bottle, Beauty simply glows, and once on the nail, the effect is mesmerizing. Dark yet not black, this polish appeals to those of us that love dark colors but aren't always in the mood for an entirely black (or mostly black) polish. If you're thinking that BNF looks similar to some other Olive toned/golden flecked polishes out there, I have to say that BNF is not like any other.  You really need to see her in person to appreciate her beauty and her inner glow.

Beauty Never Fails was released along with the newly revamped Holy Grail (review and swatches to come), and once I saw those bottles side by side, I decided that I wanted to show this polish with Holy Grail.

I started with a base of A-England The Knight base coat (review forthcoming, but let me say that this is simply the best base coat I have ever used). I applied two coats of Beauty Never Fails and allowed them to dry. Then I grabbed my striping tape and laid out the pattern, sponging Holy Grail over the tips in a gradient fashion. I topped it all off with a coat of The Shield (review forthcoming - but I will say that you NEED this topcoat. Especially if you're an SV fan). The result is one of my favorite manicures yet. Subtle yet eye-catching, vampy yet bright, sexy yet chic. In fact, this is what is on my nails right now.

I am in love with Beauty Never Fails...and this manicure. The olive undertones in this girl are just lovely, and the gold, green and bronze fleck really bring this polish to life. Combined with the new Holy Grail, well let's just say that this is one of my favorite polish combinations to date.  Beauty and Holy Grail are meant for each other, and I have seen many manicures using this combintation - all of which are just beautiful.

Formula:
Beauty Never Fails has the signature A-England formula - thick, yet not too thick to use. Never goopy or gloppy, and no thickening during use. I've said it before and I stand by it: A-England's formula is sheer perfection.

Application:
This lovely applied smooth as silk, flowing like butter onto the nail and staying exactly where I placed it. Little o no clean-up required. Although nearly opaque in one coat, Two coats ensure complete opacity and depth of color. Due to the glass fleck, Beauty is slightly textured when dry, yet not gritty. It has a beautiful shine to it, only needing topcoat to smooth out the texture and add extra shine. Combined with The Shield, A-England's top coat, this polish shines like a polished diamond (my pictures don' show the shine well - my lighting tends to wash out the shine). I experienced no streaking, although this polish dries very fast, and if you go over the same spot more than once or twice it does drag slightly.  This only occurred on the first coat, the second coat evening out nicely. Entirely self-leveling, no need to worry about uneven application.

Once again, I am deeply impressed by Adina's creation. The only thing I can really say that hasn't been said before is this : There is nothng like an A-England polish!

Dragon Nails!

Good Morning Lovelies! Today is looking like another multiple post day!

Awhile back I was contacted by KKCenterHK Online Store to do some product reviews for them. One of the products that I was most interested in were their full nail water decals. I love water decals, and was curious to see if they would perform as well as regular polish appliques.  These decals come in a pack of 12 and are pre-shaped, so no need to cut - just soak in some water for a few seconds and apply.

I chose the black and white dragon image, and since I have a fairly deep C-Curve decided to wear some white undies to start. I'm actually very glad that I did since the water decals are slightly sheer and did not cover the sides of my nails entirely. However, that's really my only complaint, and it's barely a complaint. These decals blended with the base polish seamlessly and created a very cool look!

All photos are 2 coats of Finger Paints Paper Mache under the Dragon Water Decals and topped with a coat of A-England The Shield (this top coat is so shiny that I'm still having issues with glare! Wow!) Do not adjust your screens - these decals are pixelated images, so up close in macro mode they look a bit fuzzy, as you can see by the close-up photos vs. the standard shots. IRL, they are crisp and clear, until you get very very close, and then you can see the pixels a bit. Not an issue unless you tend to magnify your nails IRL. )

As you can see,  I wasn't kidding, the image is kind of pixelated in macro mode - this is because the image really is comprised of small pixels in the decal - , but IRL looks clean and crisp. The combination of the black dragon against the white is really stunning and I developed a serious problem with staring at my nails when I should've been doing other things.

Application:

These water decals are so simple to use! They come in a strip of 12 decals, in 3 different sizes: 2 thumbnails, 8 in between nail, and 2 pinky nail.  Just chose the closest size, cut the selected decal off the strip (no need to shape to your nail - these are shaped well and have some sheer excess on the sides for coverage), soak in a cup or bowl of water for about 5 seconds, slide the decal off the strip and apply to your nail. Once on the nail, I did have to do some adjusting, but I found a technique that worked well and took mere seconds. I laid the decal on my nail, held the strip just at the edge of the cuticle and pulled taught over the free edge. Then I took the sides of the decal and folded them in like a flap of wrapping paper, folded the center over the free edge and gently filed off the excess. Since I was wearing polish underneath and had wrapped my tips, I had no issue with filing off my nail, and the way I folded and wrapped the decal ensured I had no wrinkles in the decals as well. Add topcoat to protect your decals and voila! Easy Peasy! I'll admit it took a few tries to find the right technique, but once I found it I was finished with this mani in under 10 minutes. As a bonus, when you add your topcoat, the decal tends to melt down onto the nail even further, eliminating any stray wrinkles and any bits at the tip.

Since I loved how they looked, I decided to put these to the test. After doing a sinkful of dishes, cleaning half the kitchen, doing a loaf of laundry, bathing the baby, feeding to dog, emptying trash, diaper and outfit changes for the baby, My nightly cleansing and moisturizing routine, a bit of Xbox, watching Walking Dead, rummaging through 2 giant toy boxes searching for my keys, a full petsit, and countless handwashings, they still looked exactly as they did when I first applied them.  In fact, removing these made me a sad panda, and I'm currently sitting on KKCenterHK.com looking at more. :)

A England Jane Eyre and some bonus stamping

Hello again lovelies! I told you I was busy with posts! It's looking like I will have multiple posts every day for a bit. But hey, that means more gorgeous polish, right?

It's no secret that I am absolutely head over heels in love with A England. Today's A England Beauty is no exception. If anything, it has led to an even deeper love of Adina's utterly perfect creations. This post is pic heavy since I added some stamping after the fact. So, let's see some polish!

                                          A England Gothic Beauties: Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is a classic novel written by Charlotte Bronte. Published in 1847, Jane Eyre was considered by many to be ahead of its time due to its portrayal of such a strong female protagonist and subject matter such as religion, sexuality, and feminism . The novel follows Jane from a young orphan into adulthood and chronicles her love for one Mr. Rochester. Jane Eyre remains one of my favorite novels, alongside Tess of the d'Urbervilles (which, contrary to popular belief, existed and was beloved even before Fifty Shades of Grey used it to punctuate it's sex scenes ;) ).

A England's Jane Eyre boasts Fiery Red shimmer interspersed within a blackened base. In Natural light, Jane Eyre shines with a subtle glow, a dark gem lit with soft red flames. In direct light, Jane Eyre come to life, resembling polished onyx reflecting the coppery flames of a roaring fire.  Much like the fictional character, Jane Eyre seems simple at first glance, but upon inspection is complex and deep, dark and brooding yet with an inner glow that cannot be dismissed. Simply put, it is Blackened Red at it's finest.

I've decided to showcase Jane Eyre with some stamping first, since it has been shown beautifully on several blogs.  I chose Red Angel Plate RA 106 with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Wined Up as my stamping polish. I love the result!

And of course, a couple shots of Jane Eyre before stamping. Please note that the polish looks kind of textured in these shots - what you're seeing is actually the reflection of my backdrop and other objects around me. The Shield top coat is amazingly shiny and reflective, and I need to change my lighting to accommodate when I use this!

I adore blackened red polish, and Jane Eyre is simply the most stunning Blackened Red out there. Obviously, I am in love!

Formula:
Jane Eyre boasts the famous A England formula: thicker than other polish, yet not too thick - the perfect consistency. No thickening during use, no dragging, balding, glopping or gooping.

Application:
Jane Eyre applied beautifully, staying right where I put it on every brush stroke. A bit sheer on the first coat, she builds to perfect opacity with the second. Truly a dream to apply.

Although I love every single polish in the Gothic Beauties Collection, Jane Eyre holds a special place in my polish loving heart. If you love both Reds and Blacks, Jane Eyre is an absolute must have. It's also a perfect alternative to plain black - still deep and dark but with a subtle flash of color.
