Still having trouble getting rid of the obstinate paint from my house project, I can wait no longer to share what the room ended up looking like.
The first view when you enter the room. Balanced blues and whites with neutrals and wood. That means no more rusty reds and dark laquered furniture from c. 1870
I made the blue pillows with a floral patterned cotton with a little shine, a teal coloured back of velvet and then, I decorated the pillows with a teal velours ribbon.
In the hours between the wall painting, I painted this 25-year-old drawer and a cupboard as well in a beautiful teal-blue colour. The colours didn't translate very well to these pictures, unfortunately. The furniture were in the white before I began, so I used a wood primer, and two coats of the paint.
Here is an old chest that was inherited by my mother and father from my grandparents. The decorations are painted on and on the back, it has my grandfather's initials. The wooden floors were made some years ago after removing a woolen carpet and grinding away a layer of old dark brown laquer.
And here is the cupboard - in a slightly more correct colour. The grey painted box beneath the computer table Was bought to conceal all the flexes and wires that connect the machinery. And I set up the computer all by myself!
For the last day I kept the room a secret to my parents and then held a little revealing party with carrot/orange juice and sparkling water and raspberries, served on a silver plate with roses and lavender from the garden.
And just to accentuate the mix between old and new, I chose to put up a shelf with hidden fittings, and made room for my mother's Chinese Box and two crystal vases with roses and fresh lavender.
So, that was the new guest room and computer room.
While being at home, I also made two pillows for the sofa, a skirt, a t-shirt and a pair of shorts for myself. I could have stayed, but duty calls....
