Hello Lovelies! I really wish that I had been able to post earlier, but the hubby's days off were spent working on my son's bedroom. We sorted and threw away alls sorts of old things we had stored in that room, hauled loads to the dump, primed over the former artwork on the walls and then painted the final color. I spent 3 days covered in dust and paint and I'm glad that it's almost finished.

Thankfully I can now get back into an actual swatching routine! I have some awesome Holiday polishes coming up this week, as well as that promised Polish TBH, and I am so excited to show those off. I'll also finally post the giveaway, although I'm still going back and forth on the prize sets. I suppose I'll have to finalize that tomorrow so I can get it up and running over the weekend.

Today I have an awesome top coat to share with you all, and I'm way excited about this one. I love wax effect top coats. I also love Matte Top coats, but there is something about that smooth, waxy look that really gets me. I was so happy when Lac Attack sent me their Waxy Lady Top Coat to share with you all, but I had a hard time choosing a base color. I knew I wanted something that really popped and would show off that waxy look, so I eventually settled on OPI Eurso Euro, a stunning Blurple creme.  I know that most everyone on earth has seen this polish with a shiny top coat, and had a feeling it would look amazing with Waxy Lady on top. I was right!

This is 2 coats of OPI Eurso Euro topped with Lac Attack Waxy Lady Top Coat:

Okay, if Eurso Euro wasn't a gorgeous polish before, it is truly awesome after adding Waxy Lady. I love how smooth this looks, and how the finish really looks more wax-like than just mattified. It allows the color and some of the shine to come through while creating the perfect smooth, slightly matte yet still moist looking finish that I just adore.  One of the things that keeps me from mattifying often is that it seems to dull the color a bit too much for me, whereas a wax effect top coat keeps that color shining through.

Waxy Lady's formula is a touch thicker than your usual top coat, yet it's so easy to work with and doesn't glop up or thicken while polishing. Application was straight forward and perfect - Waxy Lady flows just as nicely as a shiny top coat, levels perfectly and dries just as fast. My nails were dry to the touch within 2-3 minutes. One of the things that truly stood out here was the wear. I'm  used to matte or wax effect manicures having some terrible wear with Creme polishes, but Waxy lady wore perfectly without any chips or tip wear for over 2 days, and that was while being highly abused during home improvement time! *Angels Sing!*

Without a doubt, Waxy Lady is my very fave wax top coat ever! I just have to have many bottles of this, and I have a feeling you will be seeing a lot more manicures topped with this baby.   I can't wait to show you a glitter polish with this top coat - it's epic! If you're a fan of mattifying your manicures,  I highly suggest you give Waxy Lady a go. I guarantee you'll love the finish. It's pretty gosh darn amazing.

Mish Mash Challenge, Week 7 (I think!), Least expensive polish

Hello again lovelies. I've been struggling to post the past few days since I am sick as all get out. Just my luck - I finally take a much needed break, come back to the blog and wham! Evil cold germs invade. I am very, very miserable, let me tell ya.

However, I feel horrible if I don't post for long, so here I am with my Mish Mash Challenge post for this week, even if it is 2 days late.

This week's challenge is to post our least expensive polish, meaning the polish that we actually shelled out the least amount of money for. Mine just happens to be one of the new Maybelline Color Show Vintage Leather polishes, which I snagged for nothing due to a BOGO sale, a $1.50 coupon and some CVS extra bucks. Pretty cool since I paid almost $4 each for the 2 I grabbed at Target.

This one is called Vintage Violet, and is a really beautiful deep Plum color with some lighter flakies. It has a matte finish, and is designed to streak and leave a somewhat distressed looking surface to mimic old leather. The effect is fairly cool, too. This one, unfortunately, is one from this collection that doesn't show the flakies all too well, but they *are* there.  The only ones that really show the flakies well are the lighter pinks/purples, which I'll be showing soon (I hope)

Ya know, I wasn't sure I would like these sans top coat, but I really do! And the color is definitely up my alley (although a complete pain to photograph, I tell ya!)

I did decide to try this one out with top coat as well. And I wasn't as impressed. This is the same polish with a single coat of HK Girl Top Coat:

Okay, so it's still pretty with top coat, and look at the shine from my HK Girl! I think I'm kinda let down with the shiny version since it seems to really cover up the flakies as opposed to bringing them out more.....some of these polishes really show their flakies when you add some top coat. Some, not so much. At least the color is still fabulous though! And it still looks somewhat distressed.

Vintage Violet's formula is a bit tricky to work with since it is a matte, but it is not supposed to be level or perfect and this really threw me. I kept trying to get it all even, when it's just not meant to be. It's thick, dries almost instantly and the flakies will leave some balding if you don't float the polish. Application was tricky for the same reasons - opacity was decent with full opacity at 2 coats. Wear, however, was a real let down. I had lots of tip wear and some serious chips before I was even able to photograph this (about 2 hours). I spent a lot of time doing touch ups. At 24 hours my nails looked like I hadn't changed polish in a week.

As much as I love the concept behind these, the wear really puts me off. I have 5 of these, and even though I want to wear them since  love the effect, I'm shying away due to the crappy wear time. Maybe the others won't be as bad.

Live.Life.Polished: Top Secret

Hello again Lovelies! I managed to post twice in one day! Woohoo! Since I'm trying to catch up, I'm pretty stoked to manage to post more than once today.  Not to mention the polish I'm about to show you is seriously killer.

Live.Life.Polished is an awesome Indie Brand created by the ever-so-cool Tammy. You may remember her thermal polish, Blue Lagoon, that I posted last week. That is still one of my fave thermals ever! But today, I have my very favorite polish from Live.Life.Polished to share with you.

Top Secret is a purple color shifting top coat. It looks amazing over any color, but darker colors really bring this baby to life. The shimmery particles shift from purple to blue, and are so very sparkly. I'm still wearing this today since it's just so gorgeous that I don't want to take it off.

This is a single coat of Top Secret over NYC Chinatown (a deep eggplant purple):

Love!!!! Just gorgeous!! I love the colors in this topper, and that sparkle! Wow!! This is a polish that I will be reaching for often.

Top Secret's formula is excellent - perfect consistency, no thickening during use and no glopping. Application was stellar with no dragging, or balding. The shimmer in this girl disperses evenly on the nail and only one coat is needed for a gorgeous color shifting effect. Dry time is fast and Top Secret dries smooth and glassy.

This topper is truly phenomenal. If you're a fan of color shifting toppers, then you must have this! This is actually the second time I've worn this (again with the not being able to photograph it previously due to mom's health), and I love it just as much this time.

Hello Lovelies! I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to post yesterday - it's been a hectic couple of days around here! I've been landscaping my backyard as well as re-working my front garden, and there was some AC Repair thrown in there as well. Not to mention helping mom out and waiting on news from her doctor's appointments. Lemme tell ya, I am exhausted. I have no idea how I am still upright, especially since my insomnia seems to be getting worse.

I also spent some time taking my nails down to a pretty short length yesterday. My free edge has alot of damage from nipping and using a metal cuticle remover tool, as well as over buffing. This made achieving a decent shape almost impossible, and even though my Pure Nail Oil™ helps strengthen my nails, it can't restore the layers of keratin that were removed by some serious over buffing. My middle nail on my left hand was so buffed out that it was paper thin, and my natural ridges formed points in the nail. All of that combined with a bad allergy season and my complete inability to refrain from gouging myself when I have an itchy spot, meant it was time to nubbinize. Normally I don't voluntarily lose length, no matter how damaged my nails are or how much I make myself bleed froms scratching, but I really want my nails to be healthy and without getting rid of that damaged free edge, I'll just be waiting for that huge break. May as well be pre-emptive! Besides, as much as I love having long nails, I also really like shorties. I don't keep my nails short because shorties tend to make my fingers look short and squat, but I love how they look and how simple they are to care for.

I have to say that after removing the damaged free edge, I was able to shape my nails the way I like them for the first time in months! I'm fairly thrilled about that, and since I;ve been using Pure Nail Oil™ my nail growth is much mor noticeable and consistent. It used to take me a full 6 weeks to get back to my favored length, but this last time (when I chopped off the stilettos) while using Pure™, I had my length back in 2 weeks.

So sorry to all my brands that I have swatches coming up for! I'm channeling my inner LTHP and rockin the shorties since I'd rather see nicely groomed and healthy shorties than damaged and badly shaped longer nails any day!

Today I have another top and base coat review for you all. I know, I know....didn't I just post one of those? Well, yes. Yes I did. But let's face it - we're always looking for the greatest base and top coat of all time, and if you're anything like me, you want something that not only provides excellent results, but doesn't suck the money out of your wallet at an exponential rate.

By now I'm sure you're all familiar with Ana from NailCareHQ.com, the genius behind Pure Nail Oil™. Ana is my most trusted source for nail care information and just a wonderful woman as well. Back when I first started using Pure Nail Oil™ and realized that strong nails aren't born from tons of chemicals and expensive strengtheners, Ana was kind enough to send me her base and top coat, Simply Smooth™ and Simply Quick™ to try out.

Simply Quick™, Simply Smooth™, and the amazing Pure Nail Oil™

 Now I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to base and top coats, I am ultra picky. Over the past 2 years I have tried so many, and almost all of them have failed me. I learned that you get what you pay for, and my go to products were OPI Nail Envy Matte and Seche Vite (along with Seche Restore) for a good 18 months. Then I switched to HK Girl Top Coat, which I still love, but let's face it. I use a ton of top coat. If I can find a cheaper alternative that works just as well? You bet I'm going to use it! Same with my base coats, which I rotate depending on finish. I still use Stuck on Blu for holos and mattes, but with swatching and nail art challenges, I go through alot of base coat.

Let's start out with Simply Smooth™. I expect alot from my base coats. I want them to protect against staining, help my polish last longer, smooth out some fairly good sized ridges and provide a smooth surface for polish application. It's rare that I find a base coat that gives me all of these. OPI Nail Envy Matte came the closest, but I don't need a nail strengthener and at close to $16 a bottle, it's just more than I really want to spend on something that I use so much of. Simply Smooth™ gave me all of the things I want in a base coat, and the finish is amazing. Not only did my polish last through all of the daily tasks that I subject it to, but it minimized staining, even with highly pigmented polish, smoothed out all of my ridges, leaving a perfectly smooth surface for my polish, and the finish looks beautiful to boot! Simply Smooth is just barely tinted, which leaves a gorgeous barely there pinkish sheen to the nails. Honestly, I'm okay with wearing just Simply Smooth™ on occasion. If you're a fan of french manicures, this would make a perfect base! And the best part? Simply Smooth is only $4.99! That's a huge amount of savings for someone like me that spent $16 every 3-4 weeks for base coat.  I've been using Simply Smooth for a couple of weeks now, and have already ordered a full sized bottle. I love this stuff. and I'll be sticking with it for as long as Ana stocks it!

Onto Simply Quick - Simply Quick™ is a just what it says. It's a fast dry top coat, with no bells and whistles. However, that doesn't mean it isn't a killer top coat. Simply Quick dries FASTER than Seche Vite, and even a few seconds faster than my HK Girl. Dry to the touch in seconds, and entirely dry (no wrinkles or dents) in about 5-6 minutes. Ana has said that she thinks it's slightly less shiny than SV, but I disagree. The shine has a different quality, reminding me more of a gel top coat than your usual quick dry. It's still super shiny, there's just less glare! It also dries hard, like a gel, which I adore since I am so hard on my nails. My manicures have been holding up better than ever before, and I swear the protection from Simply Quick is one of the reasons that I haven't busted off one of my very damaged free edges yet. SImply Quick also has a thinner formula than most quick dry topcoats, which means I'm using less product, and it does not get gloppy or thick - ever! No need to worry about keeping thinner handy or buying pricey restorative chemicals.  Honestly, this stuff is wonderful! As an added bonus, I have had less smearing with stamping, even when using a very smeary blue over white (you'll see that later tonight!). Just like Simply Smooth™, Simply Quick™ sells for $4.99, which saves me even more than Simply Smooth does, since I use a serious amount of topcoat between swatching, layering, and nail art.

I have to tell you guys, these have been my manicure staples for the past 2 weeks. I was skeptical at first, since come on....$4.99?? But I admit that I am in love with both of these and will keep using them for along time to come. My wallet is much happier, and my manicures look fantastic. I haven't compromised a single shred of quality. As a blogger, I'm partial to both saving money and using products that are high quality - these give me both. I highly recommend checking them out. You'll love them!

Flakie Friday! Nail Pattern Boldness Tin Man

 Hello Lovelies! My internet connection is back up and running so I'll be doing a little catch up today. I'll have my letter "O" post for the ABC Challenge later today, but I regret that I will not have the Daring Digits swatches that I was working on, since those were lost with my original letter O pics and I'll have to re-swatch it. 

Today I have one of my favorite flakies to share with you. For awhile there Gold leaf flakies were HUGE. Everyone was putting out a gold flakie topcoat. I love the effect of thsoe gold leaf topcoats, but I'm not a huge gold fan and tend to lean toward Silver when I can.  I stumbled across Nail Pattern Boldness while browing Llarowe one day, and found Tin Man. Woohoo! A Silver flakie top coat! You can bet that I snatched that polish up right away!

Tin Man, or Silver Flake depending on where you shop, is a mass of different size and shapes of silver flake in a clear base. It is NOT real silver, so you won't have to spend a small fortune. I love how this looks over blue, so I chose Maybelline Color Show in Blast of Blue as my base color and layered one thin coat of Tin Man over the top. In hindsight, I should've gone thicker with Tin Man, since the silver flakes are very heavy and textured, and since my base color was not 100% dry I did have some wrinkling of my base polish due to the movement of the flakes on the surface. A thicker coat would've helped avoid that mishap, but since it's not noticable IRL I'm not all that bummer. I do want to make a point that what you see there is operator error and not the polish itself. 

This is 1 coat of Tin Man over Color Show Blast of Blue, topped with Glitter Food and HK Girl Top Coat:

   
  Gorgeous! The different sizes of flakie really do it for me. And silver! This flakie would look good over pretty much any polish. 

Tin Man was a bit tricky to apply, if only because the flakes are textured and a touch heavy. As I mentioned before, I used very thin coats, which cause the flakes to grab onto my base polish and create some wrinkles. I recommend using thicker coats to avoid that little snafu. Thankfully I know about that little snag for next time since I can see myself wearing this often.  Tin Man also dries very textured, so I added a generous coat of Glitter Food before topcoating to smooth things out and protect my mani.

Let's talk about Top Coats - HK Girl Fast Drying Top Coat Review

Hello lovelies!!!! Happy Friday! Although it's Flakie Friday (and I assure you I will be back with some awesome Flakies today) I want to talk about something other than pretty polish today. I know, I know...perish the thought! 

A few months ago I was on a quest. We've all spent a ton of time and money searching for the perfect top coat, am I right? Most of swear by Seche Vite, but let's face it. SV has issues. Like shrinkage. ANd it doesn't play well with dry polish. And using more than one coat without waiting all day to let the first coat dry cause insane wrinkles. Not to mention that SV thickens up terribly about 1/3 of the way through the bottle, and regular thinner will not work - in fact, it jut makes your SV cloudy! SO, if you want to use more than 1/3 of your bottle, you get to spend another $9 or so to purchase Seche Restore, the only way to keep your SV usable and clear. Sounds like alot of aggravation, right?

Despite all of the evil associated with SV, I swore by it for almost 2 years. I've tried other top coats, Essie Good To Go, Orly Second Dry, and Orly's drying drops were all decent - they did the job but they just weren't as fast, shiny, or as solid as SV. I moved on to Sally Hansen Mega Shine as well, and I really loved that top coat - it's super fast drying, shiny as all get out and dries rock solid. I really thought I had found my Holy Grail there, but I kept hearing about this incredible, better than SV top coat that played well with all polish and well - curiosity won out. And let me tell you, I am so glad it did!

The top coat I'm referring to is the infamous HK Girl top coat. I had heard so many wonderful things about HK Girl - no shrinkage, intense shine, dries hard but doesn't chip, dries faster than SV, no wrinkling with multiple coats, and it plays well with every polish out there. Pretty big claims, right? Well, I am here to tell you that THEY ARE ALL TRUE! 

Check out this awesome bottle - is this not the best looking top coat bottle ever? Black and clear rhinestones with bright pink curled ribbon. So cool! I love this stuff so much that I'm ordering the gigantic 2.5oz bottles now. The bottle alone is worth the money!

But let's talk about performance for a moment.  I was skeptical when I first heard that HK Girl was actually better than SV. I'll admit that. So when my first bottle arrived, I used SV on one hand, ad HK Girl on the other. I really wish I had had the presence of mind to take photos, but I had no idea that I would end up so in love with HK Girl. 

Dry Time- Hk Girl dries lightning fast. We all know that SV dries to the touch within minutes, but the polish underneath is still a touch moist for awhile. HK Girl dried faster than SV by about a minute, and was dry enough that the polish underneath didn't wrinkle or dent within 20 minutes.  I have a tendency to whack my hands against everything in sight right after I polish, so this was impressive. HK Girl is also completely self levelling, and requires only a thin coat.

Shine - SV is no doubt one of the shiniest top coats on the market. However, HK Girl manages to outshine SV somehow! I was born with glitter in my veins (In case you haven't noticed, I love me some glitters and it's rare that I don't have glitter on my nails), and I use Glitter Food to smooth out my glitter manis. Glitter Food dries very matte, and HK Girl restores my nails to ultra-shiny with a single, thin coat. If you haven't noticed that my photos always have some glare from my top coat now,  well I don't know how you could actually miss it. When I used SV, I had some minor glare, but not as blinding as with HK Girl. Some people may find this detrimental to photos but I'm not one of them. I want shine. Alot of it. I want people in airplanes to be blinded when the sunlight glints off my nails. HK Girl delivers!

What about shrinkage, thickening, and polish compatibility?  I can honestly say that I've been using HK Girl exclusively for about 4 months, and I have had zero shrinkage, even if I don't wrap my tips. I'm on my 4th bottle of this stuff and have yet to experience any thickening, even at the bottom of the bottle. If it were to thicken, regular thinner would do the trick, but I have a feeling that I'm never going to need it. If it hasn't thickened up after 4 bottles, it isn't going to! I also want to mention the formula - SV is notoriously thick to begin with, and despite being self leveling, I'd always end up with some top coat that spilled over the side of the nail. I have yet to experience this little annoyance with HK Girl.  The consistency is always perfect - thin but not watery. perfect for nice thin coats. HK Girl also plays well with every single polish that I have used it with. We've all had those few polishes that SV just did not like and ended up never drying, bubbling, or shrinking like mad. Not an issue with HK Girl. 

Have I raved enough? If all of that isn't enough to convince you that you need to try HK Girl, then let me mention one more thing. I actually threw away all of my other top coat, including my SV, when I started using HK Girl. I have one bottle of SH Mega Shine in case something horrible happens to my HK Girl (in which case I will cry and throw a gigantic tantrum), but that is it. Not a single bottle of SV to be found in my house. That's a big deal for me, since even when I used other top coats, I always kept SV on hand just in case. 

Have I also mentioned that HK Girl doesn't dull holos? Bonus! I cannot say it enough - if you only try one new product all year, make it this one. You will do the dance of joy, seriously.

my christmas manicure/ mis unias navidenias

hola queridas lectoras!
Espero hayan pasado una muy feliz navidad, yo debo decir que si la pase muy bien en compania de mi familia y mi hijo que ahora esta saludable y mas grande y ese es mi mayor regalo!!
Entre mi nueva profesion y esta temporada navidenia no he podido escribir nada en mi blog, digo nueva porke hace poco que sali de la escuela de tecnico en unias, y hace poco que he estado ejerciendo ya la profesion en mi casa ya que mi hijo esta pequenito. Bueno pues esta navidad es la primera que uso mis unias de acorde con esta celebracion, y ahora como no tuve de pintarme nada a mano decidi usar y darles una revision a las banditas para unias de sally hansen llamadas ''salon effects''. Compre uno de los modelos de edicion especial para navidad que es de cuadros escoceses rojo y negro, debo decir que me sorprendio la facilidad y tambien son de una excelente calidad (aunque eso no me sorprende por que sally hansen siempre hace cosas con buena calidad) hace poco probe otras tiras de esmalte de la marca ''cala'' pero aunque lucian bonitas y trae 4 tiras mas que sally hansen (solo trae16 y cala 20) eran mas duraqs y menos elasticas que las de ''SH''. Las aplique como en 15 minutos y use una capa protectora tambien de sally hansen ''no chip acrylic top coat''.

Esta capa cristalina que cuesta al rededor de 4 dlls  dice ser una capa acrilica y hace tiempo la compre porque cuando uso esmalte al dia siguiente se me empieza a descarapelar de el borde de la unia y como esta capa decia ''no chip'' (que no se descarapela) pernse en darle una oportunidad. En verdad me encanto!!! protege muy bien el esmalte y como queria que mis tiras de sh duraran hasta navidad puse 3 capas, 2 en toda la unia y una solo en el borde.
Cuando intente despintarmelas no podia!!! dure mucho y tuve que limar los restos del disenio, aqui les dejo unas fotos:

 Vienen unas instrucciones en el lado de la cajita pero dentro viene un instructivo mas extenso con tips para que duren mas y para una mejor aplicacion, tambien contiene un palito de naranjo y una lima

 El modelo que yo elegi se llama ''plaid about you''

 Un dia antes de navidad le puse una capa delgada de un glitter con base cristalina que es muy chiquito y cambia de colores como verde, cobre y dorado

mi conclusion es que si tienen la oportunidad de usar estas banditas o tiritas de disenios usenlas!! de la marca que sea, son muy divertidas de usar, lucen hermosas y son faciles de poner, son muy buenas para la gente que tal vez le falla un poco el arte pintado o que simplemente no le gusta, tambien sirven de base para algun dibujo pintado o en 3D!!! Estas fueron mis unias de navidad!!! Ahora estoy planenado el de anio nuevo ;)

my first review! Hard Candy matte top coat

hola!!Este esmalte ke es un top coat o capa protectora sirve para dar un acabado matte a cualkier esmalte, lo tengo desde hace como un anio y es la primera vez ke lo uso, y me parecio hermoso y muy rapido la forma en ke trabajo, a los poco segundos ya se veia el resultado!! asi ke se los recomiendo lo pueden comprar en cualkier wal mart, tal vez a mi me entusiasma mucho porke amo los esmaltes matte jeje :)
