I am so looking forward to this Autumn. Not because of the rainy weather, darkening afternoons, but because this season is bristling with diffenrent imaginative and innovative designs. We usually see how a season refers back to a previous decade, however, this Fall all decades of the 1900s are represented.
Though I have found out, that I love almost every runway I have studied yet, as a fan of McQueen, I had to begin with a review of Sarah Burton's Autumn/Winter 2011, which is absolutely amazing!
The colours are primarily black, grey and white, typical for the A/W designs. What I get from it is a sense of fantasy-world. The HBO-series Game Of Thronesseems clearly present in the hardcore leather/fur/knit/strap looks. There is a luxury of the thick woolen fabrics and a animalistic twist with the details of a weather beaten fur. And on top there are looks like number four above, where the warrior-toughness is rounded with chiffon sleeves that opens like a flower's petals.
The roughness and the feel of wildness and primate creatures, gets softened with the introduction of feminine details. As the dotted pants (pic 2), the long flowy skirt in a greyish white colour and in the black dress at the end with ornamental details and a lot of sex-appeal by showing skin through a cascade of black ribbons. I get a bit of Chrysler building slash elf maid slash Femme Fatale of the 20's here.
The collection gets more and more feminine and lady-like. Here we see a few Mad-men shapes; accentuated waitslines, sexy cuts and a more polished looking fur. And to round up the show a few absolutely fantastic ball gowns and "wedding dress" dresses; white, silks, chiffons, petals, pearls and that fairy angelic lightness to add a bit of a positive antidote to the gloomy rough war-feel of the beginning looks.
I adore the Xena warrior amazon looks of this collection paired with the aetheral beautiful lightness in between the apocalyptic designs. An all in all pretty wonderful autumn collection.
I am going to translate the looks into wearing a huge fur-hat with my woolen cape and military lace-up-boots with grey legwarmers underneath. I also have to use my black chiffon shirt with a pencil skirt, a huge oversized knitted scarf and lady-like bonnet hat.
But first, I will happily enjoy the rest of the summer.
