So I had posted the other day about how i was wearing a set of fakes until I grew out some free edge. Well, last night the worst possible thing that could ever happen to a nail polish buff happened to me.
As I was going about my business, I managed to snag a thumbnail, ripping off the fake nail. Usually not a big deal since I only use enough glue to keep them barely on....I guess this nail just had other ideas though, since when it came off, It managed to take a chunk of my nail with it. A big chunk. It tore right at and under the cuticle line on my right thumb, taking a chunk of the lunula out. It's sore, and I am depressed as all hell over it. My doc is unconcerned since it is not infected; I do need to watch for any sign of infection but since the cuticle is protecting it it should seal up within a few days and then eventually grow out normally. I fought with the decision to keep blogging, or to take a little vacation until my nubbins grow out a bit, but decided that since it's not about the length of my nails, but about the polish itself, that I would keep on trucking. So here I am.
I know my little nubbins aren't that much fun to look at, but hey, as far as nubbins go, they're kinda cute. Not that I had much choice; when I took them all down to nubs I had broken my ring finger nail down to the quick so I had to take the rest down to match. My consolation here is that when I started doing this a mere 6 months ago, I had nails that had been bitten down past the quick, and were horribly ridged and unsightly. I didn't start blogging until I had some free edge, but I have pics of those old manis....and they were baaaad. I saved some that I plan to share with you guys in the coming days, since this is now the saga of nubbins.
Anyway, I am planning on letting them grow back out, although they may not get to my former longer length. I'm liking the look of nails that are just at the fingertip, and since I have a young kiddo and diaper changes are rough with long nails, I may keep them at a more manageable length. We shall see, right?
Now, onto the nubbins!
Yesterday I received a package from my friend and fellow polish fanatic Marisa. We're doing a nail polish swap (I had planned to send hers out today, but with the torn nail matrix and impromptu doc visit it looks like it will go out tomorrow instead), and she sent me the most gorgeous polishes! Since it's Pink Wednesday, I decided to share this one with you guys first.
This is NK Nail Enamel in "Apple". I've never used this brand before, but it is lovely! Application was lovely, not a single complaint (unless you count having nubbins!), and was opaque in 2 easy peasy coats. The color is stunning, vibrant and saturated..just stunning. It's a reddish pink, which appeals to me every time, and I don't have a single pink like it. I had originally planned on pairing it with nail glitter that she sent, but I didn't want to hide the color on this baby, so I added some Essie Carnival on an accent nail, and left the rest alone. I tend to do that more often with nubbins since I don't hav much room for nail art until I get some free edge, so expect to see more of the actual colors and less nail art for a few weeks....
Anyway, here is Apple in all her (nubbineque!) glory!

Despite the nubbins, isn't this poish just gorg?? I am in love! Other than the usual SV shrinkage from being unable to wrap my tips, I haven't managed to chip this polish, despite my doc poking and prodding around my thumbnail (which I can polish as long as I don't get any product near the cuticle, thank god!). Impressive! I can't wait to share the rest of the polish she sent me! They're all just amazing. I'm hoping she likes what I picked out for her, and also hoping I can get it sent in the morning. This stupid torn nail has really screwed up my day!
Happy Polishing!
