Flakie Friday! Revlon Moon Candy in Satellite

Hello Lovelies! Happy Friday!!!! I wish I could say that it's a happy Friday here, but it's not. far from it. Yesterday we found out that my mother's Lung Cancer has already returned, and it's highly aggressive. They are concerned that it has probably spread to her lymph nodes, and are going to do a PET Scan and full brain scan to check for metastasis. She also has a lot of fluid in her lung, which they will be draining.  The original tumor that they found in December is dead, so these are new. I'm not in a good head space. I'm scared and worried about my mom. Right now I'm in disbelief, really having a hard time processing this. Thankfully I have all of you lovelies, and you've all been so kind over the past 24 hours. Thank you. You guys rock! I'm so glad that I have you all, and this blog is a wonderful distraction from reality.

So, let's get distracted!

Today is Flakie Friday and today's polish was a huge disappointment. I really dig the Revlon Moon candy line, and the polishes that I've worn from this collection have been a little troublesome in the application department, but nothing horrible. Enter "Satellite"....

Satellite is a deep Red that leans brown - almost the color of dried blood. The flakies are your usual Orange/Gold/Green flakies. I remember thinking this was beautiful when I swatched it on my nail wheels. Once I got it on the nail? I am disappoint, son.

Before I get into all the issues, let's take a peek. This is 2 coats of the base color and 2 thin coats of Flakies over NPB Glitter-A-Peel (review coming soon!), topped with NPB Glitter Food and HK Girl Top Coat. Pictured with my trusty Glitter-A-Peel bottle since the Moon Candy bottle leaked. Also, ignore my poor, aggravated cuticles. They always get a little puffy after cuticle remover, but  managed to add insult to injury while pulling weeds from my garden. We have weeds with huge thorns here, and I managed to poke my fingers in several places. They itch. It sucks.

Satellite looks pretty enough, right? Maybe so, but let's talk about Formula and Application.

Formula:
Satellite's formula was incredibly thick, gloppy, and impossible to use. Even with thinner, it was still a nightmare to apply.  Lot's of dragging and balding, impossible to control, and it would thicken up terribly after every few nails. I literally wanted to smack this polish. That bad. The Flakies weren't much better, needing a good dose of thinner as well.

Application:
Satellite was hard to control, and as I mentioned above, had issues with dragging and balding. The ultra thick formula made this impossible to control, making for a huge mess. I thinned and thinned, and it still was thick and goopy. The most annoying issue was that no matter how many times I went over a spot, the polish acted like it did not want to hold. It literally would thin out and thicken in some places, and be so thin you could see through it at others. The only way I can most accurately describe it  very much like when you apply Gel polish and don't get under the light fast enough.  The Flakies were easy to apply after some thinner, but they left me underwhelmed. They seem to be very sheer, and without a ton of them, they just look like big mylar blobs on the nail.

Yeah, I will not be wearing Satellite again. I don't like posting negative reviews, but I can't lie either. This polish is not good. I'm really hoping that it's a fluke and the rest of my Moon Candy's are more like the other 2 I've worn. And who know? Maybe I got a bad bottle. EIther way, I'm not pleased with it.

White Owl Lacquers Heightened Emotions Collection: Never Let Me Go and A Little Danger

Hello Lovelies! As you know I've been trying to play catch-up after an Emergency and then a horrible cold that knocked me down for a good 10 days. I've decided the only way I can catch up is to post some multiple polish posts, as well as swatching on both hands! If nothing else, this should be interesting!

Another reason for swatching on both hands is that I decided to take my length down since my nails were so uneven that they were curling in at the sides and over the corners, and the only way to get them back to normal is to take them down a bit and make sure they are close to even. My right hand was VERY long, and instead of taking those way down, I decided to see what they would look like with a different nail shape. So I filed them into Stilettos! They're still a bit rounded, but I do really like the shape overall, and I cannot tell you how much easier they are to maintain. Despite my nails being incredibly curvy and the fact that they sit somewhat diagonally in the nail bed, filing the into stilettos means that I don't have to spend so much time attempting to file them so that they appear straight and also look like they sit correctly in the nail bed. Strangely enough, my stilettos aren't near as sharp as the corners on my squares were, and they catch less. I kinda wish that I had been brave enough to try them on my left hand as well (although the idea didn't really hit me until I had already finished that hand.)! Anyway, today you get to see the debut of my stiletto'd right hand! As an added bonus, my son is also debuting his nails!

Today I have the final 2 polishes from White Owl Lacquers Heightened Emotions Collection, Never Let Me Go and A Little Danger. The Heightened Emotions Collection is a Valentine's Day Collection (which I am so late in swatching due to aforementioned Emergency and horrible illness) based on The Vampire Diaries. One of the things I love about this collection is that it isn't so Valentine's themed that it can't be worn year round. These 2 polishes are very cool, in that they are totally intertwined.

Never Let Me Go - Pink, fuchsia and red round glitters, and iridescent blue/purple glitters in a sheer white jelly base. Never Let Me Go is my very favorite polish in this collection. On it's own, it's fairly sheer, although opaque enough that VNL isn't an issue. It also looks amazing layered over white, which I recommend if you want a stark contrast between the base and the glitters. I chose to wear NLMG on its own, since I adore how soft the base color looks in contrast to the gorgeous pink/fuchsia glitters.

NLMG's formula was fabulous! I had zero issues with the glitters in this polish - no fishing, no clumping, etc, and they dispersed evenly. The round glitters are a bit heavier than others, so they will sink a bit during storage, however I just tipped my bottle upside down for a few minutes before polishing and voila! No problems! Application was stellar - no dragging, balding, or streaking and dry time was fast.

A Little Danger- A mix of pink, fuchsia and red round glitter with iridescent orange/green squares in a clear base. This girl is essentially Never Let Me Go's twin, save for the clear base and slightly different coloring of the irridescent glitters. I couldn't tell the difference until I saw A Little Danger over Black. I really dig this idea, and wish there were more matching glitters like these!

All photos are 1 coat of A Little Danger over Revlon Cupid (I'm not so hot at photographing my right hand anymore,  and I whacked my pinky against the table again, so bare with me!):

I really dig this glitter topper as well. Both of these polishes are right up my alley - I love pink and fuchsia, and we all know I love glitter! There is something about the color mix in these two that is just perfection, though. Mara is a genius!

A Little Danger has a very nice formula for a glitter topper - the base is very smooth, and the glitters are abundant, yet not overwhelming or clumpy. The glitters in ALD did not sink while in my polish cabinet, so no need to flip this one upside down before use. Application was easy peasy, the glitters dispersed perfectly and lay flat on the nail. Dry time was fast and wear is excellent. You can see soe bubbling in my photos, but that is my Evil Gelous again (waiting on my Glitter Food from Llarowe, which is back ordered.)

I am  very impressed with what White Owl Lacquers has come up with so far, and I cannot wait for Mara to give us even more! Urban Stamped

It's Friday!!!! You know the best way to start a Friday???......getting a text from your boss saying 'take a snow day'.  Yippeeee. I started to sing a song called 'I love my boss'.

Today I have something simple but fun. I decided to just stamp my thumb this time. Mostly because this stamp would not fit on my ring finger.  I really like the look though.  It reminds me of when everyone use to wear thumb rings.  Very weird comparison but that's what it made me think of :)

The polish is two coats of Revlon's 'Urban'.  It said new shade on the bottle but how new I do not know.  Its almost like a navy purple.  I love it!  The stamp is BM214 from Bundle Monster.  Everyone kept asking if it was a sticker.  That's when you know you did a good job

Flakie Friday! Finger Paints Motley (and Special Guest Charlie Cat!)

Hello again lovelies! I'm back for another Flakie Friday with one of my #1 nail crushes, Susan from The Subtle Shimmer! I am really loving Flakie Fridays. I had forgotten just how much I love flakies! I'm actually on the hunt for more (I really want a red Flakie), so if you know of any awesome flakies leave me a comment!

Today I have a flakie that I've shown before on the blog, however that was a good year ago I believe. Finger Paints Motley is a gorgeous blue/teal/blurple/purple/green duochrome flakie in a sheer base. It's my favorite from this collection! The last time I wore this flakie I layered it over a deep Navy. This time I wanted a different look, so I chose to layer it in between coats of the infamous Revlon Royal, the most famous of all Cobalt Jellies.

For this mani I started off with 2 coats of Revlon Royal. Then I layered one coat of Finger Paints Motley and went over that with a very thin coat of Royal. I then added one more coat of Motley and topped it all off with a coat of HK Girl Top Coat (review to come). I really love the way this mani turned out. The flakies look like they are a part of Royal, but they aren't entirely covered by the jelly polish like a full on Jelly Sandwich.

Unfortunately this mani really did not want to live. After many attempt at Suicide, it finally managed to off itself right after I photographed it. In the photos you can see where the polish began to lift on my middle and index fingers, as well as the bubbles from a botched attempt at trying to fix it so I could take photos. I refilled my bottle of DIY Peel off base coat last night and had forgotten that when I use thicker coats of the PVA Glue that it tends to spread out on the nail (I only apply it to the center of the nail, leaving the sides and base of the nail free so my clean up doesn't mess with the seal) so when I clean-up it pretty much kills the whole mani. Grrrr! But I'm a trooper and wasn't about to miss a Flakie Friday!

I apologize for the pics as well...I only managed to take a few shots before my middle nail managed to pop off and fall to the floor. Mani dead. :(

I'm really bummed that this mani offed itself so soon. I love this combo - the color, the depth. In my world there is nothing quite like a good Cobalt blue.

Formula:
Finger Pains Motley has a wonderful Formula. Not too thick, Not too thin, and no thickening up.

Application:
Motley is a dream to apply! It flows smoothly onto the nail and it's easy to control the amount of flakies. The flakes lay flat on the nail so no need for anything other than your regular top coat. Unfortunately Motley is an LE and no longer available save for Blog Sales and Evil Bay.

If you're not familiar with Revlon Royal, it has a tricky formula. It's pretty runny for a jelly so you have to be very careful. I'm so used to Indie formulas now that I totally forgot how runny this polish is and flooded a few cuticles. Which is not good at all since Royal is also a royal stainer! However, it's worth all the fuss.

And now...A word from Charlie The Cat:

Oh Hai! This is a reeeallly comfy spot. This is where my kitten sits (I think my humans are my kittens..I even groom them and attempt to carry the baby. He's a big kitten though so I'm not very successful!) and I know she would want me to lay here and hog it! See how I sprawl across the cushion so there isn't room for anyone else? I is so thoughtful!

Ahhhhh...hello kitten! See mah belleh? You must scratch it now!! I grab your hand so you cannot run away! The kitteh belleh beckons you!!!!

Wait!!! Why you stop! What do you mean "move your cat ass, Charlie"? Can you no see I is comfy? I stay here and you scratch my belleh some more. Yes, that is good plan!


Needless to say Charlie did not move her cat ass and I ended up sitting on he other end of the couch. But only after scratching her belly for a good half hour. She is a total belly kitty. She rolls, drools, kisses, meows and purrs like a freight train during belly rubs. She will also scratch the ever loving hell out of me if I stop before she is ready.  She's really a funny little fur-baby! But back to the tough questions..

Flakie Friday! Revlon Moon Candy "Moon Dust"

Hello lovelies! Happy Friday!!!!! I love Friday for so many reasons, but now that I'm doing Flakie Fridays with Susan of The Subtle Shimmer, I'm digging them even more! It's funny how I never realized how much I missed wearing awesome flakies until I joined Susan for this feature.

Today's polish is a surprise fave. Awhile back Revlon launched their Moon Candy Collection, and we were all uber excited since ya know, drugstore flakies! When they were first released they sold out right away and I spent forever hunting for them. Then Revlon added more polishes to the Moon Candy Line and I had to have some of those as well. I stalked Walgreens and CVS for them, and then hey ended up sitting in my polish cabinet, lonely and neglected.  I think I have 6 altogether, and have only worn 1 of them up until now.

I chose Moon Candy for today since I had never even swatched this on a color wheel, so it was like a little mystery. MC is a double ended polish with a back creme polish for the base color, and an iridescent flakie topcoat that shifts from gold & Green to Teal and Blue. I didn't expect to really love this one since alot of the Moon Candy colors are fairly striking and this is your basic black with flakies. However, once I applied the flakies, this polish combo sprung to life and I was oooing and ahhing all over the place. In fact, this post is oretty pic heavy since it's so gorgeous I had a hard time narrowing down the pics!

This is 2 coats of the black base polish, 2 thin coats of the flakie top coat ( be sure to click "read more" to see the color shift in this beauty!):

I admit it...I am in love with this combo. The flakies in this baby are so very bright and the color so very vivid.  I'm actually still wearing this!

Formula:
The Black Creme base color was a little on the thick side, but not gloppy. It didn't thicken during use and did not end up glopping around the tiny rim of the bottle. The flakie top coat is thick as well, but not too thick to work with. I prefer to add a little thinner to mine since the flakies are almost overwhelming otherwise.

Application:
The Black Creme applied beautifully and was opaque in a single coat. I used 2 since I am a serial 2 coater and just cannot seem to wear a single coat of polish. No dragging, balding, or glopping and it leveled nicely as well. The Flakie Top Coat can be a bit tricky. If you don't add thinner, the flakies are very concentrated and will cover the entire nail in  single coat. Since I added thinner, I was able to control the amount of flakies on the nail. They do need to be patter on if you want them to stay put for the first coat. The second coat I applied normally and the flakies dispersed nicely. I did need to be careful to watch the flakies near the free edge though - they will hang over the edge and snag on things. They're fairly thick and heavy flakies as well, and they don't always lay flat on the nail. I recommend a good coat of Gelous or Glitter Food to tame the flakies before you top coat.

The Moon Candy line is certainly impressive visually, which makes the semi-tricky flakie application worth it to me. In fact, these are some of the most vibrant flakies I have ever seen! Moon Dust is a surprise fave as well...The color shift is amazing!

Here a Pink, There a Pink

Good morning all!  

It's the beginning of yet another work week.  I just found out today that I can start working 8 to 4 instead of 8:30 to 5.  I'm pretty stoked about it. The earlier I can get in and out the better. It means only a half hour lunch but I'm okay with that.  My boss is so easy going that if I take longer it's no problem.

I have something pretty simple but fun today.  The lines are by no means straight but I'm not going to hold it against myself. I don't seem to use pink that often so it was due time.

The dark pink is Revlon's 'Raspberry Rupture' and the light is Quo by Orly's 'Tease'.  I can't believe I remembered the colours.  I've been a big time slacker in recording my polishes used.  

Stamp over a glitter base-sunday stamping

Ni en Domingo paro de hacer algo jaja esta es la primera vez que participo en este reto de los domingos de otro grupo en facebook en el que estoy llamado ''Adventures in stamping'' y el tema lo describe bien el grupo trata de Stamping o estampar en uñas ya sea con un kit como el de konad o el que tengas, yo tengo uno barato de 10 dolares pero me ha funcionado super bien!! tengo como 8 platos para estampar pero que creen!! gane un giveaway en un blog de 25 stamping plates de la marca MASH!! no lo puedo creer!! nunca gano nada jaja

El reto del que tocó este domingo fue ''stamp over a glitter base'' (estampar sobre una base de brillos) como yo soy todavía nueva en esto creo que mi manicura no salió muy bien jeje pero he llegado a encontrarle el gusto a esto, es relajante jeje.

De base usé esmalte de China glaze ''Liquid crystal'' y para estampar Revlon ''No shrinking violet'' este ultimo es excelente para estampar! en verdad lo recomiendo.

NOTD: Another Untried! Revlon Sparkle APlenty

Good morning lovelies! Happy Friday!! I'm having a pretty good morning so far...it's payday! Which means I've already managed to order more A England (including The Knight Base Coat and The Shield Top Coat, which I plan to review here...I know we're all consantly looking for the best out there, and I've heard these are incredible!) and score some awesome Indie polishes from a blog sale! Woohoo!

Today's NOTD is another from my stash of untrieds. Revlon Sparkle APlenty is from the single shade Runway Report Collection (can you call that a Collection?), and was highly sought after. I managed to snatch it up as soon as the display hit the floor at Wags, and was so excited about it! Then it sat on a shelf just staring at me all dejected-like. Poor thing!

Sparkle APlenty is a dark grey/black (it's debatable) jelly packed with Silver Hex and microglitter, as well as Black Hex and microglitter (If you think it looks familiar, it's a pretty good dupe for OPI Metallic 4 Life from the Nicki Minaj Collection). Despite sounding simple, there's actually alot going on in here (it freaked my camera out!). You can see all of this in the bottle, but it loses it's translation on the nail, both over black and on its own. I chose to wear 2 coats over A England Camelot, my go to Black Creme.

Pretty, right? I'm actually kind of on the fence about this one. I really wish the the Black Glitter was actually visible. I tried this one alone first, and the Black glitter really does fade into the jelly. The only time you can see it, is when a black glitter overlaps a silver glitter. Pretty, but not all the unique.  I was hoping for more oomph.

Formula:
Sparkle Aplenty has a very odd formula. The jelly is fairly runny, but the glitter is so dense that it globs together. This made was very frustrating and made glitter placement a complete pain. The brush was also VERY fluffy, which didn't help.

Application:
 Due to the runny jelly and clumpy glitter, this was not fun to apply. Since I wore this over Black, I ended up just dabbing the brush around in an effort to get the glitter to lay somewhat evenly and flat. It has a tendency to stick up from the nail, which led to alot of poking at it to get it to lay down. The jelly also lends a very greyed out cast when worn over Black, yet looks fairly dark when worn alone. I'm wearing 2 coats here, but this needed a good 3 coats on its own. Dry time was fairly slow, and it dries gritty so if you like things smooth, a good coat of Gelous or Glitter Tamer is in order.

I really wanted to love this, but I'm just not wowed. This is the first time I've picked up a Revlon Glitter and was just "meh" about it. It's just not consistent with their usual quality. Unofortunately, this is going to end up sitting on a shelf, or donated to someone who will love it.
