The Owls Are Not What They Seem

Me and Mr. Noire have some kind of un-agreed game where as soon as one of us sees an owl we say "The owls are not what they seem." This cryptic quote is, as many of you already know, one of the most famous lines from Twin Peaks and the inspiration for this look. :)

Obviously the brush strokes are supposed to look like feathers. And I got my first real opportunity to test Illamasqua's Scribe. :) Oh my, I wish they would make these kick-ass liners in more colors! I would love if they made a lime green one, since that would be very unusual.

Right now I'm completely obsessed about gradients like these, enclosed in a cutcrease with a darker shadow!

Face
*Skin Base Foundation 02  (Illamasqua)

Eyebrows
*Velocity (Sugarpill)
*#391 (Inglot)

Eyes
*Shadow Insurance (original) (Too Faced)
*Medium Pencil Sophie (Illamasqua)
*Jumbo Pencil Milk (NYX)
*Tako (Sugarpill)
*Anja (Illamasqua)
*Velocity (Sugarpill)
*#391 (Inglot)
*Eyeliner Scribe (Illamasqua)
*Gel liner Electric (Makeup Geek)
*False eyelashes #111 (Ardell)

Step 1. After priming your eyes pick out your medium pencil in Sophie (Illamasqua) and draw this shape around your eyes. You want to make it round and somewhat owly. ;)

Step 2. Fill in the interior of the shape you just drew with NYX Jumbo pencil in Milk. Carefully blend it out with your finger.

Step 3. Pop on some matte white on the middle of your lid. I used Tako by Sugarpill.

Step 4. On each side of the white I applied some Anja eyeshadow by Illamasqua. Applying it with one side of a flat brush I just flipped the same brush over and blended Anja into the white with the other side.

Step 5. Continue the gradient with Velocity by Sugarpill, a royal blue eyeshadow.

Step 6. The gradient is finished off with some black in the corners. Make sure everything is smooth and well blended before proceeding to step 7.

Step 7. Now we are going to do basically the same gradient, but stretching it from the crease to the eyebrow. Begin with applying Anja over this entire area.

Step 8. Apply Velocity closer to the creaseline and blend it into Anja.

Step 9. Define the crease further with black eyeshadow. Again, make sure everything is smooth and blended before proceeding to the next step.

Step 10. Use Velocity and a black eyeshadow to fill in the brows. Create a gradient here as well, with black in the outer part and blue in the inner.

Step 11. Line your upper lashline with Sophie and set with black eyeshadow. Apply Velocity on your lower lid and blend it out using Anja.

Step 12. With an angled brush (such as MAC #266) draw first a series of strokes with Velocity and then with black eyeshadow.

Step 13. Do a similar set of strokes with Illamasqua's Scribe.

Step 14. Apply mascara and falsies to you upper lashes and paint your lower ones with Scribe. (Then look scared to death and take a picture XP...)

Step 15. Finish off the look by applying a royal blue eyeliner to you waterline. I used the gel liner Electric by Makeup Geek. If you read through this entire tutorial then I must say I am impressed with your patience. ;)

This was the 4th look in my Twin Peaks makeup series and I still have ideas for at least a couple more of them. :)

Hope you enjoyed the post and maybe learnt something new from the tutorial. :) Thank you so much for reading!
