Hello Lovelies! Happy Wednesday! I managed to photograph the awesome Polish TBH pretty yesterday, but right now I have an ABC Challenge manicure for you (I'll post the Polish TBH this afternoon)!
Today's challenge letter is X, and I have to tell you, I was largely uninspired until I realized that I have a drawer full of X-Treme Wear polishes. I've had some nail art ideas in my head, thanks to my daughter, and took this opportunity to create her favorite.
For this manicure I started with a base of Sally Hansen X-Treme Wear in Grey Area. I have no idea why I haven't worn this before - it's such a pretty grey, even if it is darker than the grey from my inspiration. After that dried, I added a few different sized dots in another X-Treme Wear polish, Breezy blue. Then I added some tiny dots to the upper right of the blue dots in yet another X-Treme Wear polish, White On.
This design is actually inspired my a character in My Little Pony : Friendship Is Magic named "Derpy Hooves". She was a background character, but the fans fell in love with her uneven eyes and clutzy mannerisms, so she was adopted into the cast. My daughter is a huge MLP fan and adores Derpy, so it was only fitting that I recreat Derpy's Cutie Mark (the image on the pony's flank) on my nails. Her cutie mark is just random floating bubbles, but I think these look pretty darn cool!
I admit it - I really dig these! Derpy is a pretty fab character, and even though my base color is darker than Derpy is, I'm still thrilled with these. Now if my nails would grow faster, I'd be a happy girl! Unfortunately I had been patching a tear that was just behind the quick on my index finger, and that started to give way so I had to take my length down one last time. It does keep my right hand closer to the length on my left though, so in the end it works out. I'm just missing having *some* length.
What do you think of my Derpy Hooves Cutie Mark Nails? You get extra points if you actually know who I'm talking about!
Be sure to check out all my polish sistah's and their letter X manicures!
I'll be back later with Polish TBH awesomeness, and I have some incredible Indies coming up this week, so check back!
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
-Kimber

ABC Challenge: "W" is for Weak Water Marble

Hello Lovelies! Check it out - I managed to post again before midnight! Woohoo!
Today is another ABC Challenge day! This challenge has flown by. I can't believe we're already at "W"!
For today's challenge I decided to water marble, which was a bad idea since I am so out of practice. The last time I marbled was for the 31 day challenge, which was at least 6 months ago. I need to bone up on my marbling skills since I love water marbles and can pull off some pretty cool manis when I'm doing them regularly.
I suppose It's not all that bad, especially since this is another 4 am manicure. My biggest issue was that the polishes I chose were not great for marbling, but I am stubborn and decided to force them to work. Yeah, not my best idea. But at 4 am, the last thing I wanted to do was go through my stash to find the good marbling polishes in the right colors.
For this mani, I chose Sally Hansen White On as my base ( my fave white to marble with) and used Orly Wild Wisteria and Nina Ultra Pro Lilac-ing Discipline for my purples. I added the white dots to try to offset how bad this is, but it didn't help. Neither did my attempt at small flower petals since my nails are fairly short. My pinky also came out very light, which was odd since I used the same exact number of drops and the same pattern. Meh.
Here is my weak water marble:
So not epic, but not a complete fail. I hope. I'll definitely be marbling more often to get back into the swing of things though!
Don't forget to check out my polish sistahs and their W manicures. I guarantee they're way less weak than mine is!
Are you a fan of water marbles? Would you like to see more marbling manis?
I'll be back tomorrow with a new Indie Brand that you'll love, so check back!
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

31 Day Challenge, Day 7: Black & White Nails!
Hi guys! I have to admit, I had a ton of fun with this mani! It took me a good while to settle on a design for this challenge. I started with white with black glitter, then realized another blogger had used that combo so I changed my idea to a White on Black ruffian with black glitter. Then, this idea hit me last night, and since I had never tried this before, it won.
I give you (drumroll please!)....Black and White Drip Mani!!! For this mani I used Wet N Wild Black Creme (my go to black. For a very cheap drugstore polish, this black is just awesome!) and Sally Hansen White On. For the drip look I swiped a strip of black polish along the tips of my nails, and used one of my dotting tools to pull the polish down into drip-like strips. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, even though my top coat did smear the black a touch on one of my index fingers. Booooo!
What a fun mani! And so fast! The drips take maybe 5 minutes! I'll have to try this mani with some other colors when this challenge is over. Speaking of, I am loving as well as hating this challenge so far. I love that I'm wearing colors that I wouldn't normally choose, but I am so bummed out that I wont get to wear any of my new polishes (I kid you not I have a good 50-60 from the past month alone) until this is over.
Tomorrow is Metallic Nails, and I have it narrowed down to 2 choices. I may actually used them together somehow. I tend to just obsess until I have picked the perfect color, much like I obsess if the shape of my nails arent perfect (they never are. I force myself to settle down and accept their imperfections), and if I have even the smallest imperfection in my mani (same deal I force myself to STFU and move along). Anyone else obsess like I do?
Happy Polishing!
