31 Day Challenge (v.2!) Day 18: Half Moons (Fail?)

Hiya Ladies! So sorry this post is so late. It's been a hectic day with the husband getting in from Texas late last night and playing catch up on business stuff. In fact, I didn't get a chance to work on this until this afternoon, and as soon as I had about 3 fingers painted with the half moons, hubs informed me we had to leave early and I had about 30 minutes to finish. Yikes!!!

I did manage to finish, but I'm not all that happy with the results. The design is awesome, but I could not find my teeny tiny nail art brush and didn't have time to properly cut down another, so I just used the smallest brush I could find. This darn thing left my lines brush-strokey and was just hard to work with.  My index finger also got really messy since my cat decided that would be a fabulous time to rub up against my arm. I tell ya, the universe was not working in my favor today. Thankfully IRL you can't see all of that!

Today's design is another inspired by Robin Moses nail. I saw this design on her youtube channel and fell in love with it. I don't wear half moons often at all because they're not really me, but this was too pretty to be ignored. She referred to this design as the "Romeo and Juliet Nail" in her video, and if you go to her youtube channel, you can find it in the "elegant" playlist.

I started with my usual base coat, then added the half moons in Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Plum Luck, a gorgeous deep plum. Then I freehanded the loops and dots using Essie Mirror Metallics in No Place Like Chrome with a (way to chubby) nail art brush. All in all i dig how it looks IRL, but not so much in macro mode. I can't wait to try this again with a tiny brush.

Before I show the mani, I want to share a word of warning. DO NOT leave blue cross cuticle remover on for an extended period of time. Ever. I was doing my usual cuticle remover routine, and my son managed to whack himself in the head with  toy truck and was not in a happy place. In my rush to soothe him, I forgot to wash the cuticle remover off the 2 fingers I was working on, and low and behold! It just about ate the entire cuticle. Not good. My middle and ring finger cuticles are beyond pissed off and I am seriously bummed. I really hope they heal up fast and you can be sure I will NOT be doing that ever again!

Okay, now onto the pics!

Okay, I guess they're not as bad as I made them out to be. I just really wish the lines were thinner and sharper. Otherwise I'm fairly happy.

Be sure to check out the Varnished Vixens and their half moon manis!
