Revlon Moon Candy: Orbit

Hello Ladies! Happy Tuesday!

Today I am sharing one of the Revlon Moon Candy polishes. Out of the 4 that I have, this one was screaming the loudest for some love. Orbit is a polish/flakie double ended combo polish. The base color is a lovely dark, dusty purple, and the flakies are irridescent blue/teal/blurple in a soft pink but clear base.

Now let me be honest: I was holding out on wearing these because I had heard that they were just a pain to apply. But they are so gorgeous that I decided that I could handle anything this polish threw at me, bit the bullet and pulled Orbit out of my polish cabinet. And I am so glad that I did! I'll get to formula and application in a moment, but first....pics!

This girl was very hard to capture! IRL the depth of this polish is amazing, and the flakie have a beautiful color shift. Despite the purple base color, the flakies make this duo look like a sapphire blue on the nail. I am perfectly fine with this since I adore blue polish. I did have to light this polish like crazy, so please ignore the weird skin tone. Lots of light tends to wash out my skin tone and make me look either glowing white or lobstery! Yikes! It also makes my cuticles look red and weird. They are angry due to my changing my polish nightly lately, but not *that* angry!

Details:
1 coat DIY peel off base coat (cause nobody enjoys flakie removal)
2 coats Orbit base color
2 coats Orbit flakies
1 coat Gelous
2 coats Seche Vite

I wish that pictures did this mani justice. IRL it has a ton of depth - it looks alot like a flakie sandwich. Stunning, I tell you! I don't know where those weird bubbles came from, they aren't evident at all IRL.

Formula:
The formula for the base color in this duo was perfection at first. It did glop up during the second coat, but a little shake fixed that. Otherwise it flowed smoothly and stayed where I put it. The only cleanup it required was due to my need to have smooth lines. If you do cleanup with this color, be careful! If you touch your skin while the color is on your brush, it will stain and is a pain to get off.
The formula for the flakie topcoat, however, was horrendous. It is incredibly thick, and since the flakies are shards, they are jagged and do not always lay flat. Due to the thickness of this flakie, it uses up a lot of the polish for one mani.

Application:
The base color applied smoothly and evenly with no dragging, streaking, or bubbling. Even when it thickened up, it still went on smoothly, just thick. Lovely polish!
The flakie topcoat however, was a nightmare. Since it is so thick, it tend to clump the flakies together, requiring some maneuvering. Due to the jagged shards of flakie, if your base coat is not fairly dry, the shards will literally drag the base polish off when moved around. They do not always lay flat, which leads to jagged pieces of flakie poking up off the nail. Obviously this does not dry smooth at all. It was so bumpy and pointy that I used a thick coat of Gelous and 2 pretty heavy coats of Seche Vite to smooth everything out. Luckily that combo worked very well and made this polish just glow. I definitely recommend either Gelous or Glitter Tamer for these.

If you don't mind some extra work, this duo is incredible. I cannot stop staring at my nails since they just glow from within.

What do you think of Orbit and the Moon Candy flakie duos?

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
