ABC Challenge - B is for Black Spotted....DIY Spotted Look Nails!

Good Morning lovelies! Welcome to Letter "B"of the ABC Challenge! I am so excited to show you today's nails! I tried out a new technique and it is so cool!! Let's get right to it!! (Be sure to click "read more" to see this mani up close! Very Pic Heavy since I love this mani!)

Today's challenge is the letter "B". I chose to use Black and Blue and create some really cool nail art. I don't know about you, but when OPI Black Spotted came out in France, I wanted it sooo badly. I don't know anyone who was able to get it, and I'm not about to spend $50-$60 on Evil Bay for one polish, so I decided to wait and see if demand decreased. Thankfully we have geniuses in the nail community, and the infamous Cute Polish came up wiht a way to create the spotted look using any color of nail polish! I first saw this technique on Nailderella's blog, who found it on Cute Polish's YouTube channel.  Both are great tutorials and give a really nice result.

This technique is very close to water marbling, except there's need to use several colors and create intricate patterns. All you need is nail polish, A cup of room temperature water, and a spray bottle. I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism for my spots, and plain old water in my spray bottle.

This is the finished mani - 2 coats Cover Girl Outlast in Out of the blue as my base color:

It's not an exact match of Black Spotted, but tell me that isn't awesome!

The technique is pretty easy. All you do is set up just like you would for water marbling, then drop a single drop of you chosen color into the water. Take a spray bottle and hold it above the cup (closer to the water makes larger spots, further away leaves them smaller), then gently spray onto the polish. You do need to spray the polish rather quickly or else the water will just make it dry and look bubbly.  Once the spray hits the polish, it will spread out further, creating the spots. Then you just dip your finger into the polish like you would when marbling and voila! The spotted look!

I'm  pretty pleased with how this came out considering this was my first attempt at this technique. It's also the first time I used Vaseline to protect my fingers from the polish. It worked well, but still didn't protect my cuticles as much as I would have liked.

What do you think of this idea? Is it something you want to try? I considered posting a tutorial for you all but there are already 2 out there. Let me know if you'd like to see one here.

Happy polishing!
