Sally Hansen Lustre Shine: Lava!! Pic Heavy!!!

They're here! The Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Collection has arrived! At least it has at my local Walgreens. I have been waiting with baited breath for these to come out, so naturally I grabbed a couple the moment I saw them.

I think we can all agree that Sally Hansen has some legendary duochromes. When they release duo/multichromes, they rarely disapoint. This collection is no exception. If you haven't seen the pics of this line, google it. They are stunning. I will admit that they do not look as impressive in the bottle IRL, so I only grabbed the 2 that looked the most interesting to me. Walgreen is also charging $8.99/bottle for these babies, and at that price tag I'm not sure how many more I will pick up. That's a little steep for Sally Hansen, even if these do contain real silver particles. There are other retailers that are selling these as low as $5.99 - although not here in New Mexico yet- so I may wait on the rest until someone else has them or they go on sale. Some of the shades are pretty original, but there is yet another peridot dupe in the lineup.

The first Lustre Shine that caught my eye in person was Lava. Lava is a gorgeous Fiery  Orange Multichrome that flashes gold, a golden yellow, red, magenta, and even purple in the right light. It reminds me of Mac Bad Fairy, but since I don't own Bad Fairy and have only seen it in the bottle in person, I can't say it's dupey. Lava is also a glass fleck multichrome as opposed to smooth shimmers we've been seeing all over this year. It is gorgeous on its own, but I chose to layer it over black since the colors really pop over a dark base.

This was a quick and dirty swatch session that I just threw together this morning. Please excuse any dings in my polish (Dex needed a diaper change!), and my haphazard cleanup! I know there are a ton of pics, but since I have yet to see swatches of these, I really wanted to try and show as many of her colors as possible.

And without further adieu.....here is Lava!

I  am in love with this polish! Even though this is just a fast swatch, I am in deep love. I cannot wait to wear this girl! The color shift is very strong and evident in every lighting condition I have been in so far. I love how this looks like fire on my nails. So gorgeous!

Formula:
This girl is pretty sheer on her own, and although the consistency is wonderful at first, it did thicken up quickly. It tends to glob inside the rim of the bottle, which creates a gooey, stringy mess if you like to wipe your brush on the inner rim of the bottle. I had to close my bottle and shake it up between coats in order to restore consistency, but no thinner needed. It did flow nicely onto the nail and I didn't have any globbing there.

Application:
Thie applied nicely, although it is very sheer on its own. I used 3 coats on a swatch wheel and it was still pretty sheer. If you don't like VNL or using 3-4 coats for opacity, I would definitely layer this over a dark color. Over black this was gorgeous with only 1 coat, but did need 2 coats for opacity. It does drag a bit, so be careful with application and let this one dry between coats. I had a hard time getting opacity at the tips of my nails as well - the polish seemed to really drag there. My biggest annoyance was the bottle - the neck is deep and thin, which meant having to dip my brush wayyyy down into the bottle to get enough polish on the brush, and the polish globbed on the inside of the rim in a big way. But honestly? This color is worth the minor annoyances. I mean, look at her!

I have a feeling that Lava will be my favorite from this collection. It is just so fiery and bright. And way to make that multichrome shine, Sally Hansen! I'm certainly not let down by this girl!

I also picked up Scarab, which I cannot wait to get on my nails! I'll be posting that ASAP, but since tomorrow is a challenge day, it may be Monday before I can get to it. I also plan on picking up Moonstone and Firefly as soon as I can - hopefully I can find these somewhere other than Walgreens since their $8.99 price tag is a bit steep.

What do you think of Lava? Do you have your eye on any of the Lustre Shines?

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
