Can you guys believe this is the first time I have EVER tried half moons?? I'm not sure why! I guess I just end up distracted by complicated designs and color combos and just never really think about something as elegant, yet simple, as half moons. I will certainly not be overlooking them again!
Yesterday was hubby's birthday, so he chose the polishes for this mani, and he didn't do too bad! He chose Essence Can't Cheat on Me as my base, and OPI Russian Navy (suede) as my tip color.
Both of these were untried polishes, so I was extra pleased with his choices! Essence Can't Cheat on Me is what would happen if Milani holographics had a baby. It's a very, very subtle scattered holographic. In fact, most of the time it has that silvery/grey color that holos have if you never ever see them in any kind of light. It's actually really awesome and I plan on wearing this polish again and again! OPI Russian Navy Suede is freaking gorgeous! It's a deep, sexy Navy Blue, with a lovely silvery shimmer typical of suedes. It is incredible as a suede, but I chose to use a top coat for this mani because the suede didn't really go with the baby holo as well as I would have liked. I love mixing finishes, but these were just too different to pull off as a half moon mani without a top coat. Russian Navy Suede's formula was hands down the best suede formula I have ever come across, gliding across the nail like melting butter and totally opaque in 1 easy coat! This color will be worn on it's own very soon.
And here they are together! I wish my clean up line wasn't so far down! That's what happens when you work in very low lighting and don't push your cuticles back before you start (I should know better!!)!

Not a bad first attempt! I think I'll freehand next time though. I used the hole reinforcer trick on these and I'm not happy with my lines. I OBSESS over little imperfections, and I have some! Needless to say every mani has something I just have to nitpick at. Damn you, OCD!
Tonight is Galaxy Nails! I've done those once before, but I'm very excited to do them again! I'm planning on using different colors this time around, and using a "less is more" approach. Last time I used so many polishes that my galaxies were a bit washed out. Wish me luck!
Happy Polishing!
