31 Day Challenge, Day 6: Violet Nails!

Well this challenge bit me in the butt last night! If I have learned anything from this challenge so far, it's that using a quick dry topcoat that I have never heard of, nonetheless tried, is probably a bad idea.

Last night  I was happily working on my Violet mani, when I got the bright idea to use a quick dry top coat underneath my Seche Ulta-V so that I could move around and do things before sitting down to cure my top coat. I have to cure 4 fingers at a time, and thumbs seperately so it takes awhile and I had some things to get done first. I had been gifted a quick dry top coat called "Rush" that had dried to an amazing shine on my color wheels, and I figured it would be just fine to dry my polish enough for me to throw in some laundry and fold the load that was in the dryer. Not so much! This stuff went on smooth as silk, and looked so shiny! I was happy, so I went about my business. About 10 minutes later I noticed that I had a puckered spot at my clean up line on my index finger. Strange. Looked like the edge of a drawstring bag! Upon closer inspection, the tips were also shriveling up, and all but one of my nails had those damned puckered spots! I was not pleased. Not pleased at all. I pouted and whined (my poor hubby. He tolerates my whining about manis gone wrong so well!), angrily removed my polish and started over again. By the time I was finished, I was damn tired and decided to go to bed and take pics in the morning. Thursdays are so busy as hell in the petsitting & dogwalking world, so I had zero time to post until right now.  But, I'm here. I made it. Still muddling through the challenge!

Todays mani is Violet Nails! Which to me pretty much says Purple. I know that to others Violet means a specific shade of purple, but I chose to make it all encompassing. I have been lemming Sinful Colors Daddy's Girl for a looooong time now, an finally managed to pick up a bottle this week. Daddy's Girl is a freaking stunning polish! It's an utterly gorgeous purple- purple (as opposed to blurple!) jelly packed with duochrome sparkles. In sunlight, the sparklies flash from gold to an awesome glowy red. Just. Freaking. Gorg. It's on the sheer side, taking 3-4 coats to reach opacity, but makes for awesome layering with just 1 coat. I tested some layering on my color wheels and found some really amazing combinations! I chose to layer Daddy's Girl over Rimmel's Night Before, a true purple with gold and glowy red shimmer! What a match, right? I am a genius and didn't even think to take some pics of Night Before on its own, but given my mani meltdown I get a pass on this one, right? ;)

Formula on Daddy's Girl is a bit of a PITA. It's just a touch gloppy and rather thick. Actually it reminds me of the Nfu Oh 51 as far as formula. But, as with 51, the end result is totally worth less than stellar application.

Here is Daddy's Girl over Rimmel Night Before:

A little blurry to show sparklies!

And now indoors, natural lighting

And the gratuitous macro shot!

Another mani I am loathe to remove, but alas! The challenge goes on! Tonight I will be working on Black and White nails! I'm going to need to flip a coin to choose on this one!

Happy Polishing!
