Okay guys, I'll admit it. This mani isn't perfect. And the pics kinda suck since the good camera needs a new battery (I am doing that today since I am tired of crappy pics!). But....I'm proud of this mani. I love it. Hopefully you guys dig it too.
Alot of people are not aware that this particular series of books exists. Everyone knows about the TV show, but not many people are aware that the series is based on a series of books by Jeff Lindsay. The books are awesome, although the plot lines are very different from the TV show. It's like getting 2 seperate fixes of it. Especially if you are addicted like I am. In fact, I am so addicted that my 18 month old son is named after the main character. Hows that for obsessed? :)
Here is my inspiration. I give you.......Dexter, the books! This is actually the second book in the series. I have them all but this one is my fave cover. The others have been altered to reflect the TV show, and that kinda irks me. The books were here first. Leave the covers alone!
Now, a little explanation before we get to the nails...
My thumb is inspired by the book cover. I tried to re-create the "Dexter" from it, complete with little swoosh on the "t". It came out ok, but the spatter kinda muted it. My index finger is inspired by Dexter's "Kill Room". I spattered it heavily, then used saran wrap to create something reminiscent of the plastic Dexter uses to cover his Kill room. Middle finger and pinky are spatter patterns; Kind of a castoff and arterial spurt mixed. Fitting since Dexter is a Blood Spatter Analyst. And my ring finger is a blood slide, since Dexter keeps a drop of blood from his "victims", stored on a slide in a wooden case that he hides in his Air Conditioner. Phew! There ya have it. Dexter nails, inspired by the book!
I apologize for the crappy pics. I'm picking up a new battery for the good camera today. I can't stand this crappy little camera anymore! Also, my usual backdrop had zero light this morning so I had to take these in the kitchen. I need to fix my light box so I don't have these issues, huh? :)
Here's a bad thumbnail macro!
Here is a macro of the "kill room" nail. See the saran wrap? I can't tell you what a pain in the butt *that* was to work with! But it made a pretty fun nail. (I'm apalled at how dry my skin looks here. Ugh! Damned cold weather!)
This one is blurry, but I wanted to show the placement of the saran wrap and how it sits on the nail. Not a perfect Kill Room, but it's acceptable!
I had a blast working on this mani! Hubby and I put on Dexter, Season 1 and I went to town on my nails. Maybe I am a bit nutty (A bit? Jeeze, if you guys only knew!), but Dexter always puts me in a fabulous mood! Despite the ultra crappy pics, I hope you guys dig this one.
